The VISEGRIP® Plug, Flange andCap Seal Closure System

Fundamental to the Rieke/TOV drum closure lineis the design of the VISEGRIP—the strongest,most dependable closure to seal a drum.

The flange has a series of serrations that lockinto the drum material upon insertion.

When the plug is torqued into the flange, itseals at the most critical point—the flat surfaceof the drum head—in effect tightening theplug and gasket in a vise-like grip.

A cap seal can then be added for additionalprotection against tampering and leakage.

Specialty Steel Plugs

Rieke Packaging Systems offers an assortmentof specialty steel plugs for unique drum appli-cations. Just like the standard VISEGRIP variety,each of these plugs is made from premiumdeep-drawing quality steel and serves as anextremely tight closure. They’re typicallyelectro-zinc plated, but they’re also available inunplated steel or lined with commercial coatings.

VentsPerfect for lined containers, POLYGRIP ventsprovide a unique dispensing and resealingfeature when used in combination with thePOLYGRIP closure.

TITEGRIP Steel Flanges

Like its counterpart, the TITEGRIP plug, theseflanges feature threads that are rolled ratherthan cut. This facilitates a smoother threadconnection and greatly reduces the chance ofcontaminating the drum contents with burrs orshavings.

The VISEGRIP steel flange features a uniquedesign which permits it to become an insepa-rable part of the drum head. A key to theeffectiveness of the VISEGRIP flange is a seriesof serrations that lock it into the drum metalwhen inserted.

Incorporated into the flange is a sealing com-pound not unlike that used by drum manufacturers.This compound broadens product compatibilityand is conducive to drum reconditioning.

TAMPER-LOC® Closure System

As a closure system, the TAMPER-LOC incorporatesa plug and an external, sonic-welded tamper-evident ring with ratchets. Together, these com-ponents provide the most reliable protection forplastic drums without the need for a separatetamper-evident cap seal.

The external ring features a series of ratchetsthat correspond and lock up with another seriesof ratchets in the drum opening, effectivelypreventing plug backoff. When the drum isopened for the first time, using a standardbung wrench, the external ring is broken andremoved from the plug.

Designed for ease of inspection of propertorque before shipment, as well as immediateevidence of any tampering before opening.

As an added feature, the ring can be coloredand/or embossed with your company logotype.

Note:■ Proper torque is 25 ft.-lbs. To ensure

accurate sealing, the W-126PT-04-25 presettorque wrench (page 24) is recommended.

These flanges are specially designed for usewith plastic, reusable drums. They are moldedof high density polyethylene (HDPE) andreinforced with fiberglass and UV stabilizers,for exceptional durability.

Each of the three flanges:■ Can be removed and replaced when needed,

LEVER-LOC Lever Models

The lever model you choose will depend on twoprimary application factors:

■ Packaged Contents—Just as the contentswill determine how robust the containerneeds to be, they will also determine thenecessary gauge or performance strength ofthe lever. Regulated materials requiring amore reliable drum will likewise require amore reliable lever of a higher gauge andsteel thickness.

■ Dimensions of Container—Larger levers aredesigned for larger container diameters inorder to apply the required pressure whenclosed. Other specifications, such as theradius and throw of the lever handle, varywith openings and lids to maintain the easeof applying and removing the ring.

The current selection of lever models is exten-sive and diverse due largely to the fact RiekePackaging Systems will often alter the designof an existing model to serve a uniquecustomer need.
