  • The Richard J. Elkus Ranch is less than 45 minutes from San Francisco and the Peninsula, yet is worlds away from city life. Nestled in the rolling hills of the San Mateo County coast, the property was once a 600-acre commercial dairy and cattle operation owned by Richard J. Elkus. This facility was donated to the University of California in 1975 by the late Richard J. Elkus for the “education of children.” Our livestock and gardens provide opportunities for children to experience first-hand how food and fiber are produced. On site we have a sensory garden, Master Gardener volunteer demonstration garden, and an enabling garden for those with special needs. Hundreds of acres of open space encourage exploration of the native plants and animals that inhabit the area.

    An Environmental Education Center

    Conference Center

Just minutes from the beach and historic Half

Moon Bay with it’s delightful inns, restaurants,

and shops, the Conference Center at Elkus Ranch

is a beautiful and serene venue with views of

Purisima Creek Canyon for meetings, retreats, or

    special events.

    Environmental Education

Our goal is to provide standards based programs that

are “hands on-minds on” for children in preschool

through high school, including those with special needs.

We offer both day and overnight educational programs.

The ranch is fully accessible and offers scholarships for

program fees to special education classes and low

    income schools.

    Family Events

The ranch also hosts scouts, 4-H clubs, and other youth

groups for both day and overnight programs. Individuals

or groups wishing to volunteer or provide community

    service are appreciated.
