    Tech Update: Vibration Management System (VMS)

    Reynolds engineers have employed sophisticated computermodeling of road vibration and layup iterations to create aproprietary layup schedule designed to absorb uncomfortablefrequency vibration feedback from the riding surface. At thesame time, they’ve managed to balance that damping effectwithout compromising lateral stiffness, acceleration, feedback,and overall rim strength. According to Reynolds engineerPeter Turner, “the basis for this principle is to capitalize onthe anisotropic properties (a material that presents differentcharacteristics when measured in different directions) ofcarbon fiber material as the optimum choice for buildingwheels.” That’s a lot of technical language that simply means,Reynolds VMS results in wheels that produce faster responsewith each power stroke, quicker acceleration, greater lateralstiffness and control, and a more comfortable, less fatiguing

    Tech Update: How Reynolds U L Technology Improves Performance

    For 2009, Reynolds announces a signicant technologicaladvancement. Now all DV and MV wheels are designed andbuilt using Reynolds high modulus carbon. This important stepmeans our Ultralight (UL) designation is included exclusivelyon every DV and MV wheel in our line, both tubular and clincher.The primary benet of this technology allows us to reduce weightbetween 5% to 20% (g. 1), without compromising strength orperformance. Dynamic testing shows you can accelerate fasterand use less energy when your wheels are lighter. Less energyto keep your wheels spinning means more energy in reserve tomake the crucial break, or the winning sprint.

    Weight is only half the story. Lab tests show UL technologyimproves rim temperature performance (the temperature towhich a carbon rim in a lab test can rise during simulated brakingbefore it fails) by 17% (g. 2). The bottom line: Reynolds ULtechnology helps a rim dissipate heat more efciently duringbraking. Just as important, Reynolds UL technology increasesthe ability for a rim to sustain pre-failure temperatures by afactor of 250%.
