Prayer for the Pope V: Let us pray for our Pontiff Francis.
R: May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make
him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the
will of his enemies.
Let us pray: O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all your faithful,
look mercifully upon your servant Francis, whom you have
chosen as shepherd to preside over your Church: grant
him, we beseech you, that, by word and example, he may
edify those over whom he has charge, so that together
with the flock committed to him, he may attain everlasting
life. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
St John Paul II

Bishop Michael Kennedy:
The ‘Catholic Wrap-Up’ The Royal Commission
The process of the Royal Commission is now drawing to
its close. From February 6, 2017 three weeks have been
set aside for the “Catholic Church Final Hearing” which
will be, to say the least, confronting and shaming but
beyond that we do acknowledge that the Royal
Commission will be able to bring about change in our
Church that we would not be able to do by ourselves.
THE BOTTOM LINE FOR CATHOLICS who
accept the MISSION of Jesus Christ to ‘make
disciples’….”5” Hours a week: One hour for Sunday Mass to
‘Do This in Memory of Me’…. One hour in private and
personal prayer - preferably with Sacred Scripture…. One
hour in serious reading about the Catholic Faith to counter
the huge impact of quotidian media chatter…. Two hours
working for the parish in building Church. Jesus didn’t call
us to ‘bourgeois philanthropy’, nor to be a brand name on a
corporation, an NGO … Non-Government Organisation… or
is it Non-God Organisation. “Para-church” walks beside the
“believing community of Christ’ not within it…. there is ONE
BODY of CHRIST…Doing the Faith in the Justice of the
Kingdom. The "Justice “that supports the ‘throw away
society’ and the builds the ‘culture of death’ is alien to the
following of Christ.
FR. H KINGSLEY ETOH takes up his appointment as
Assistant Priest here in the Cathedral Parish Tuesday 7th
February. Having completed nearly 12 years in formation
Kingsley comes highly qualified for ministry. He also has
tertiary qualifications in Education. We welcome Kingsley to
our parish.
Amongst other areas of work Fr H Kingsley will be
Chaplaincy to St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral Primary School,
and Chaplaincy to Catechists. He brings international
experience in Education and the Church’s MISSION to his
work in our parish.
CATHOLIC PEACE AND JUSTICE GROUP
Following last year’s study group re Pope Francis’ teaching on caring for God’s creation, you are invited to attend an inaugural meeting of a parish “Catholic Peace and Justice” group, at Holy Family Parish Centre at 5.30 pm Mon 13th Feb.
MARTHA’S TABLE, our senior parishioner’s monthly
morning tea gathering, will recommence on the first
Tuesday of March, this is the 7th.
Pastoral Council Meeting next Tuesday
5.30pm…Main items: MISSION in our parish 2017, the Caritas
Visitation for Lent 2017; the Centenary of OUR LADY OF FATIMA
2017, Pastoral Councillors are committed Catholics serving the
MISSION of the CHURCH not pseudo MP’s representing an
electorate. We are CHURCH not a secular municipality.
AUSTRALIA DAY HONOURS
Congratulations to two of our parishioners who were acknowledged and received awards on Australia Day 2017: Mr Don Hewitt – Armidale Senior Citizen of the Year For over 50years of service to the St Vincent de Paul Society including 38 years with Freeman House. Dr John Flynn – Order of Australia Medal (OAM) For service to medicine and medical education.
ROSTERS: The Cathedral Cleaners Roster is on the way. It
would be most helpful if all cleaners of the Cathedral would contact the
Tina at the Parish Office. I need to know who belongs to each team so
I can add new members/teams from the stewardship program. It is also
an opportunity for those who wish to retire from this ministry to do so.
