What genre music do you like?

All of our questionnaire were given out to people between 16-18 as that is our primary target audience and that was easily assessable in a quick time.

Due to our video being targeted more at females than males we decided to give our questionnaire to mostly female.

We found that the majority of our audience chose the option ‘other’ which mostly referred to Alternative so it doesn’t apply to our chosen song. But acoustic was also very popular which could be applied to our song although it also has an indie theme towards it. Although our audience didn’t choose our genre as their favourite, the people we chose may not be typical of the audience as a whole.

The majority of people chose having an element of both which we weren’t originally going to include. But we have decided to change our idea to incorporate both performance and storyline so it applies to the audience we have chosen.

Why do you like to see this in a music video?

1) Maybe the artist performs in a music studio.2) Because you know what is going on.3) Fun to watch, makes it happy.4) Storylines are often irrelevant and boring. An artist performing their own song is much more interesting.5) I find myself captivated, enticed by an art form unparalleled to any other… an emotional roller-coaster if you

will. 6) Keeps me engaged with the video.7) Creates a good video.8) A love story.9) Because storylines can be cheesy.10) I like to see that an artist can perform vocally but also create a music video that looks professional.

We found that most of our audience like the lyrics to match the visuals which was our original plan therefore this will apply to our audience.

Agreeing with our plan to have the visuals linking to the lyrics, our audience don’t like videos which suggest a different meaning than the lyrics.

Gathered from our results, the majority of our audience chose the sad option which links to our idea. Others that were popular weren’t stated but we found that it depends on the song what mood they like.

The beach was the most popular choice of location and although it wasn’t included in our original plan we are going to incorporate into our video. We are also going to use a countryside even though it contradicts our result. When we did our focus group, we found out that due to the choice of song we are using, countryside was the best option to represent isolation.

Do you like love being involved in a music video?

Although our result indicates using many people, we believe it wouldn’t fit with our chosen song. So going against the audiences ideas, we are going to only use a few people to capture the emotion and isolation of our song.

Our audience weren’t keen on love being involved within a music video. So we aren’t going to base the majority of the video on love. Although we are going to include slight hints of love throughout to appeal to the others who like love being involved.
