ML9850 H2SUltra High Sensitive Hydrogen Sulphide Monitor

WHAT DOES IT MONITOR?With the smell of rotten eggs, hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and other types of "reducedsulphur compounds" are key constituents ofmany odours. The ML9850 H2S/TRS systemhas a detection limit of 1 part per billion whichis approximately 5 times more sensitive thanthe human nose and can quickly respond toincreases in H2S levels that may be ignoredby some other techniques. As a continuousreal time analyser any increases in concentration will also be rapidly detectedand recorded.

This combination of fast response time andlow detection limit benefits the user as itenables any increase in H2S concentration tobe quickly detected before becoming a nuisance or a problem.

CAN THE LOCATION OF THE ODOUR BE IDENTIFIED?The H2S monitoring system can also be used in conjunction with Casella ETi's meteorological sensors and software to produce "pollution roses" that combine winddirection with an air pollution concentration. The directional component of the pollutionrose then helps to identity the direction fromwhich any potential pollutant is emanating. This technique will be of benefit on large siteswhere several potential sources of hydrogensulphide could exist.

HOW DOES IT WORK?The system works by combining the ML9850sulphur dioxide analyser with the Model 1000Thermal Oxidiser. The oxidiser's functions aretwofold. Firstly it chemically removes any SO2from the incoming sample ensuring that theonly residual sulphur compounds remainingare "reduced sulphurs" the collective name forthe range of odour generating sulphur basedcompounds.

Secondly, the oxidiser can then be programmed either to run at one temperatureto convert any hydrogen sulphide present toSO2 or at a higher temperature to convert thetotal reduced sulphur (TRS) to SO2. The converted SO2 is then fed directly into Casella ETi's high performance Model 9850SO2 analyser to produce a direct reading ofeither the H2S or TRS concentration in thesample gas.

The Model 1000 Thermal Oxidiser's averageconverter efficiency is greater than 95% andhas a programmable microprocessor to accurately control the temperature at whichthe instruments oven is held. Oven temperature and set point are also digitallydisplayed on the instrument.

HOW IS IT LOCATED?The system would normally be housed in a small airconditioned vandal proof environmental enclosure that can be discretely located either on site or in a sensitive area.

All data from the instrument can be automatically and routinely accessed via alandline or GSM modem with Casella ETi'sdata management software.

IS THE SYSTEM RELIABLE AND ACCURATE?The key to the performance of the H2Smonitoring system is ML9850 SO2 ambientair quality analyser. This internationallyapproved analyser benefits the customer bymaintaining excellent baseline stability andreliable performance.

The system is able to perform automatic daily zero and span checks ensuring that reliable data is always available. With a detection limit of 1 part per billion (when used with the Model 1000) the ML 9850 isdesigned specifically for low level ambientmeasurement and when installed with thethermal oxidiser the system forms a high performance combination for trace level H2S or total reduced sulphur, monitoring.
