FOREWORD
The listings of materials which follow have been prepared to assistteachers of Ukrainian as a second language. Grades 7 - 12. The list is
presented as suggestions; it is not prescriptive. Many other useful
titles may be employed as references as well. Teachers are remindedthat they are responsible to their employing school board for all
materials used.
In view of the increasing quantity of resource materials availablefor learning Ukrainian, it becomes necessary to establish criteriafor selecting those materials which are useful. The followingquestions are suggested as a guide in establishing criteria for the
selection of materials:
1. Is the corient anproDriate to the interests ofstudents?
2. Do the materials contribute to the realization ofthe objectives of the program?
3. Are the grammatical structures and the vocabularyitems consistent with those of the core program?Do these reinforce the core program?
4. Is the manner of presentation interesting; i.e.
does it contain stimulating concepts, does it
avoid repetitive language?
5. Is the cultural content appropriate to theCanadian scene?
6. Are the materials readily available and is the costof these materials reasonable?
