Generation Y’sdifferent focus GENERATION Y first-home buyersare targeting investment properties asthey enter the real estate market, LoanMarket chief operating officer DeanRushton says.

“In the past month we have experi-enced a 5 per cent rise in inquiries fromfirst-time buyers, with a significant num-ber interested in investment proper-ties,” he said.

“Among these first-home buyersthere has been a 15 per cent rise in thenumber of them looking to purchase aninvestment property. Many hope to takeadvantage of current high rental yields.”

Mr Rushton said Generation Y –those people born after 1981 – was stillchasing the great Australian dream ofhome ownership but many were nowapproaching the market from a differentangle.

“An investment property also givesthem the option to buy property wherethey can join forces with a family mem-ber or friend to purchase,” he said.

“If they can muster a healthy depositand take advantage of some of the inter-est rate specials on offer from lenders,they could well be positively geared onthe investment.

“Interest rates staying on hold sinceNovember last year has also resulted inan increase in inquiries from first-timebuyers.” ■

THE Pan Pacific Hotel provided a stunningvenue for this year’s Acton Awards Night.

“Acton West director Bev Heymans was our

overall Sales Champion and won the RolexAward.”

Mr Baxter said that at this year’s ceremony,an auction was held to raise funds for PrincessMargaret Hospital.

“Our brilliant auctioneers Darren Berley,Ryan Thompson and Craig Wildman took tothe floor and auctioned a Bang & Olufsenentertainment system, Acer Iconia tablet andan iPad 2, raising $2900 for the children atPMH,” he said.

Chris Hutchison, from Acton Dalkeith, was

honoured for his long service and commitmentto the company through the CelebrationAward.

“Chris has been part of the Acton familysince 1989,” Mr Baxter said.

“He will be greatly missed, but after so manyloyal and dedicated years we certainly wish himwell for the future.
