Key Words: GIS; Sports Informationization; Applied Research

1. Introduction

Informationization and digitization begin to pene-

trate all fields of society; and developing and populariz-

ing sports informationization is the historic mission giv-

en by the time to our sports educators. The development

level of Sports Informationization can reflect the overall

sports strength of a country (or a unit). The construction

of sports informationization in china has began for over

10 years, and has achieved some achievements. In gen-

eral terms, with the promotion of reform in sports man-

agement system, there is a good trend for sports informa-

tionization in China. However, compared with major

Western developed countries the Chinese sports informa-

tionization still has a significant gap in terms of scale,

and development level. GIS (Geographic Information

System, referred to as GIS) is the technology of acquisi-

tion, storage, analysis and management of geospatial data,

which has caught widespread concern in recent years and

got a rapid development. GIS is a decision-making sys-

tem, which shares various characteristics of information

systems. With the support of computer hardware and

software support, GIS is a technology system which ap-

plies the information systems engineering theory and

scientific theory, scientifically manage and comprehen-

sively analyze geographic data with spatial content, to

provide necessary information for planning, management,

decision making andresearch. GIS can ensure the rapid

and healthy development of sports informationization

with its powerful spatial data management capabilities,

the straightforward image interface, superior perfor-

mance of the spatial analysis capabilities.

2. GIS application status in the sports in-formationization

2.1 GIS in the sport games

The traditional events management exist many

problems, such as a huge management structure, ineffi-

cient, slow response to information, resource irrationally,

complicated data processing, information analysis is not

accurate and so on. The use of advanced spatial informa-

tion, network, digital communication and data manage-

ment technology, research and establish an accurate,

comprehensive, timely, rapid and efficient information

system of sport events. It is really count to realize the

elevate the level of informationization, organization and

management in sports events, and they are also having

great meaning to public services and decision-making

ability. Such as the bid, organize and various stages of

holding of 2008 Olympic Games. Geospatial information

and technology played an important role in the selection

of Olympic stadium, planning and management of urban

greening, urban construction and management, urban

emergency command, urban operations support and geo-

graphical information field of public service.

2.2 GIS in the National Fitness Project

the use of advanced GIS technology, CAD technology,

providing accurate, efficient, dynamic and shared stan-

dardized data model based on National Physical Fitness,

which becoming a “Digital Project” space platform, the

full realization of spatial data sharing, providing the basis

for the National Fitness geographical data, and achieving

“Manage the project according to the data diagram”. In

this way it is clear and intuitive to display and statistic

the implement of the National Physical Fitness Project,

meanwhile, for the National Physical Fitness Project’s

summary and evaluation of results. To achieve fitness

information query, retrieval, statistical analysis, compar-

ison and other functions, which providing basis for the

development and policies of the National Physical Fit-

ness Project.

2.3 The application of GIS in civil constitution

monitoring

Physique monitoring GIS system can monitor geo-

graphic information data organization, management, in-

formation analysis, information release, the results of

spatial data and attribute data, including the relevant data

and time in different regions, different spatial data struc-

ture of the constitution. System database includes graph-

ic library, attribute database, professional library and

database, etc. Through monitoring, per capita GDP,

physical exercise rate in the crowd and excellence rate

over the distribution of their relationship can be analyzed.

GIS system and civil constitution monitoring is a new

attempt, providing new ideas and new methods for the

development and utilization of civil constitution moni-

toring data .

2.4 The application of GIS in the sports industry

The use of ArcGIS in the analysis of the distribution

network on radio stations during the baseball game be-

tween the Royals of Kansas city and the Cardinals of

Louis started the mode of dealing with these problems

using spatial analysis and the angles of space. For exam-

ple, in Missouri, radios broadcast the royals, another part,

the game on red auerbach, in Kansas, almost all of the

royals match on television. Researchers can measure

every team’s coverage, also the "power", and then com-

pare it with other teams’. Through the survey of the rela-

tionship between broadcast radio and city scale, we can

also compare the dispersion degree of fans with radio

dispersion degree of relationship.

3. The Theoretical Analysis of GIS in the Sports Informationization

3.1 Sports Source Data

To make use of GIS, the chief problem to be solved

is that the related sports Informationization should be

included in physical geographic information system for

processing. The main factors affect sports are Sports Fa-

cilities, Sports Human Resources, Sports Organizations,

Sports Competitions, Sports Industry, Traditional Sports,

Sports Population, and National Physical Fitness and so

on. These aspects can not be used as raw data of physical

geographic information system to process directly, but

need to future refine the spatial data and attribute data.

Spatial data is mainly used to deal with the problem of

the spatial distribution with the description of the loca-

tion, topography and geomorphology. Attribute data is

mainly used to analyze the effects of social sports and

economic implications. To deal with the mentioned

sports information needs to make a perfect sports infor-

mation input system first, which task is to change the

abstract world to the format that can be used in the com-

puter.Based on the source data, it needs for specific

analysis, summarizing the meanings, features and repre-

sentations of related sports information data.

3.2 Physical Data Model

Physical data model is the core content of the ap-

plication of GIS in sports. In order to use information

system tools to describe the real physical phenomena,

and address the issues, it must realistic modeling of

physical phenomena. The basic task of physical data

modeling is that aiming the study sports phenomenon

and issues, describing spatial data system, and designing

spatial database model, which including the definition of

physical entities and their relationships, determining the

data entities or goals and their relationships, designing

the physical organizations, storage path and database

structure in the computer and so on. Spatial data model

consists of three levels of organic connections which are

conceptual data model, logical data model and physical

data model.

3.3 The spatial analysis of sports data

The spatial analysis of sports data is the common

name of the technique of sports data. It can be divided

into three categories: analysis of operations based on

spatial data, analysis of operations based on non-spatial

data, and the join operation of both spatial data and

non-spatial data. Spatial analysis basically depends on

sports information database. The means of application

include the logical operations of various geometric, sta-

tistical analysis and algebraic operations and many other

mathematical measures. The ultimate goal is to solve the

practical problems which people get involved to the

sports information, and collect and transport sports in-

formation, especially those hidden information, to sup-

port the decision-making.

3.4 Representation of analysis result

Output is the final outcome of any analysis that is to

say the final step of analysis is to display the result,

which in order to help the user and the mapmaker to see

the work. Graph is not the whole of the output result, and

some special data can also be output by non-graphic

form. Or it can be taken as the additional part of the

graph output, such as interactive output, textual output,

datasheet and diagram. Take the stadium for example, we

can use thematic map to output the distribution map of

the established stadium and the planning map of the fu-

ture construction of the stadium. At the same time, we

can supplement these maps with other explanatory mate-

rials such as texts, pictures and charts.

4 The application development proposal of GIS in the sports informationization

4.1 Deepen the knowledge of application that

GIS in the sports information

At the present time, the application of GIS in sports

information is very limited, and the relevant research

findings are not many. The research is mainly reflected in

the aspects which mentioned above, and on the impor-

tance and significance of the promotion of sports devel-

opment are not fully recognized. We should raise the

realization of the importance on the application of GIS in

sports information construction and try to train and

strengthen the using ability of GIS information and in-

formation technology, as well as to develop vigorous and

make full use of sports information sources.

4.2 Formulate the application development plan

that GIS in the sports information

The construction of sports information is a unity of

individual behavior and collective behavior. It aims to

fully respect the right authority of different sports organ-

izations, which is to take measures to implement market

mechanism, and to mobilize the initiative of different

sports enterprises conducting the construction of sports

information. At the same time, we should realize that

sports information is not only the matter of sports enter-

prises themselves, its breadth and depth also reflected the

sports information standard of the whole nation. Thus,

we should formulate the application development plan

that GIS in the sports information and clear development

goals and tasks, and give an overall consideration in or-

der to crate a good environment for sports information.

4.3 To establish the relevant standards and laws

and regulations

The core of informationization construction is the

exploitation and development of the information re-

sources, to achieve the communion of information. One

of the preconditions is to achieve the information stan-

dardization and normalization. Therefore, the application

of GIS in the sports informationization should be estab-

lished according to the following demands. Whether it is

benefit to help those who devoted in the sports to in-

crease the productivity of labor, the work efficiency, the

economic benefits and innovation ability; whether it is

benefit for the persons in the sports field to increase the

learning efficiency and the success rate; whether it is

benefit to improve the development of the whole socie-

ty’s information pace; whether it should be pay attention

to adopt the opening and general standard when doing

model selection. According to those demands, one can

establish an essential serious standard including the

GIS’s technology standard, information resources classi-

fication standard, regulation of information resources

exploitation and development, regulation of information

market and so on through the information construction.

4.4 To make experiments and popularize expe-

riences

There are a lot of successful examples that many

sports organizations in domestic and board different

fields put it over when constructing the GIS in sports

informationization construction, those examples can not

only strengthen the confidence and enthusiasm when the

sports organizations doing informationization construc-

tion, but also set good examples for the sports organiza-

tions. Should organize and convene seminars in which

the application of sports informationization is the main

subject; should compile the relevant successful examples

in sports informationization to supply to different sports

organizations to study and refer to; should make experi-

ments when necessary to make further research.

4.5 To increase the capital devotion in the appli-

cation of GIS in the sports information- nization

In order to constantly exploit and develop the sport

informationization resources, and keep pace with the

development of GIS technology, it is important to ach-

ieve in-phase technology upgrade, and invest essential

capital when necessary to maintain the regular function.

The essential capital investment, especially the follow-up

investment, is an important guarantee to make sure that

GIS achieve success in the application of sports informa-

tionization continually.

5. Conclusions

In a word, with the gradually development of the

work of sport informationization and the rapidly devel-

opment of GIS technology, GIS’s function in sports in-

formationization will be valued, and the prospect of the

application of sports geography information system will

be wider and wider. Acknowledgement:
