Short films are films that directors make that is not as long as a normal film which would be about 1 – 2 hours. Short films can be 1 minute long or 10 minutes long depending on how much the film needs to show in order to give the audience a certain message about the theme of the story. Wikipedia describes a short film as “any film not long enough to be considered a feature film.”

The first short film I looked at is called The Tale of Mr Revus. This film was created in 2009 by a German student doing a diploma called Marius Herzog. Marius Herzog said “The challenge of this movie was to reproduce the entire production process of an animated 3D short film.” In his film he used different steps to make the film “ story development concept design, modelling, rigging, directing, editing, animating, rendering and finally compositing.”

In the short film The tale of Mr Revus unique backgrounds and character designs were used. For example there was a slug that looked like a ghost because it had the face of a ghost and the body of a slug, this character was shown following the main character, this makes the audience think of the slug/ghost as a pet for the man because he is lonely. Many different topics were used in the film like dreams, steam punk and horror. This short story is similar to a film a German student made called “Dreammaker”.

At the start of the film the voice over says “ he cares for all of us but there is no one to care for him, his only wish is for a simple life and a friend” this shows how the main character lonely and depressed. The storyline for this story is a lonely man wants to make dreams, however his plan is not successful. He makes the decisions to pour a Posen into a tube which makes all the creatures disappear including his ghost/slug pet. Then he is by himself at home, he cries and his tears turn into a light, as he looks up at the moon. At the end the voice over says “there is no such thing as a human”. This shows the main character has no family and friends. This film makes the audience feel sympathy for the man because he is a good person but he does have anyone to talk to and he is unsuccessful when he tries to make dreams.

Storyline

A man is getting married but he is worried and his friend tries to calm him down, by massaging him. However the man ends up sweating so much until water is pouring out of him. Then is tells his friend to tell his wife that he loves her. Next suddenly the man disappears leaving his suit in his friends hands.

This makes the audience laugh as well as feel sorry for the mans friend and the bride, because we do not expect the man to disappear.

The film is popular as the stoners watched and said they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. They are good at using different techniques “in their F5 fest segment Puppets, dramatic music video Simple Math, and in their viral spot par excellence, Dogboarding.” This short film is in a progame called everything its a part of the 18th episode. Everything is a comedy on channel 101 and its set in LA.
