Research into similar magazines.

• NME or The New Musical Express, was first published in march 1952. Firstly starting off as a musical newspaper before becoming a magazine in the 1980’s.

• The unique logo has been used ever since 1978 and is wildly recognized because of this.

• A website was launched in 1996. It is now the world's biggest standalone music site, with over 7 million users per month.

How does this relate to my magazine?

• The magazine has given me inspiration for the genre and content of my own. The content varies over time, from interviewing bands such as ‘The sex pistols’ to more modern day bands such as ‘Kasabian’ However although the content will always vary due to the ever-changing music industry, the genre has always stayed the same and this is indie/rock. This is something I would like to add to my own work as my genre is indie, and this is something I do not wish to change.

Front cover:• I have applied the front covers of NME to my own front cover by using the bold block font and by using a close up image of the model for the front. Even on this front cover, I have used the same artist Florence Welch. I like how NME uses the same colour scheme throughout, for this months magazine , black and white and this is something I would try apply to my own work if I were to produce another magazine.

Inside pages:• Due to the magazines having the same

genre, the bands included will be very similar and thus, the inside pages may be as well.

This double page spread interview of Lily Allen is quite similar to mine, not the layout, but the context of what is in the interview. And this gave me inspiration for my interview page. Also the bands featured a similar as both Lily Allen and Florence and the Machine are the same genre and both single female artists.

• Overall, NME magazine is a very successful multi national magazine company which is very popular for its target audience. I feel by using strong distribution and advertising techniques, ‘Indiscene’ could become as popular as NME.
