The Interviewees

• I interviewed two females and two males – the two females were 17 and 22 and the two males were 16 and 25.

• One of the females was mixed race and the other of a white ethnicity, one male was also mixed race and the other was of a white ethnicity.

• This shows that I have interviewed people in my target audience age range of 16-30 and of a the ethnicity that I was targeted my magazine for. This means that my results from this focus group will be reliable to enable me to create an effective magazine.

The findings• Because my questionnaire results showed that my

audience liked the artists Rihanna and Drake the most, I wanted to get this focus group of people to give me more detail about this.

• I found that the females liked Rihanna’s red hair and the fact she was always changing her style and reinventing herself. I also found that they liked Nikki Minaj and her personality of not caring what people thought. They were also fond of her split personality as she can be glamorous and ‘normal’.

• I found that the males liked Drake’s ‘coolness’ and ‘swag’ which were there actual words they used. They also liked his haircut in which they used the words ‘fresh trim’. Another artist they said they admired was Lil Wayne, as they liked his ‘bad boy’ persona and his tattoos.

• This gives me an idea of what the models for my magazine will look like and how they will pose and dress for my magazine to make it a magazine that my audience will be interested in and find effective.

The findings

• From my questionnaire, the result to the question of how would the audience prefer their font was very close, as eight people said they would prefer a simple font and 7 said they would prefer a more elaborate one.

• I think this is a good decision to have a more simple font, especially as in a previous question my target audience decided they would prefer to have more images than just one. Therefore by having a simple font, it doesn’t detract attention away from the images.

• I asked those in the focus group what style font, as an example, did they prefer the most out of the following on the next slide..

Findings

• The two males said that they preferred the graffiti style font and one of the females agreed. The other female said they preferred the font that was in white.

• Because the majority decision was for the graffiti style font, my magazine headings will follow this font style as its what the audience find more appealing.

• From my previous questionnaire where the public said they would like the magazine to focus mainly around the colours green, yellow and blue, I asked my focus group what they about this.

• The two females said that colours seemed to ‘boyish’ and possibly to include the colours purple or pink to appeal to the female gender. Whereas the boys were happy with these colour choices but said that they would also like the colour purple present too. By finding out this information I am now able to finalise a colour scheme that appeals to both genders.

Conclusion

• By having a focus group it has enabled me to find out specific and detailed preferences of my target audience, this means that I can create a magazine that will appeal to this audience.

• From this group I have found out that my target audience would like both genders featured in my magazine, similar to the styles of Rihanna and Drake as these were their favourite artists.

• I have also found out that although they want a simple font, that doesn't mean that it has to be plain and boring, as they liked the graffiti style fonts better.

• I have also decided my colour scheme in relation to what colours my focus group have suggested, this means that I can have an effective and eye catching colour scheme.
