"We are a community that desires to protect our wide-open spaces to preserve a more rurallifestyle. We value the fresh country air, natural wildlife, tranquil sunrises and sunsets, and seeingthe stars shine brightly at night against a dark sky!

We embrace the liberty to live more freely, which is why, as other cities work to developtaxpayer-funded “amenities” and “services” to help cultivate municipal growth, we arevigilant to keep the size and scope of our city government as limited as possible, whichkeeps municipal taxes to a minimum and out of citizen’s lives.

We respect those who have come to expect more from their local government, which manywonderful cities neighboring ours can accommodate, but that’s just not the kind of city we wantto become.

So if you share our values then we encourage you to take a closer look at McLendon-Chisholmand consider becoming a part of our wonderful community!"

"WHERE DO I FIND THE ACTUAL LAW THAT REQUIRES

OUR CITY OR ANY CITY FOR THAT MATTER

THAT STATES IN WRITING

OUR OBLIGATION/REQUIREMENTS TO PROVIDE

FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES?"

- COUNCIL MEMBER ADRIENNE BALKUM

5

Our City Attorney Mr. Paschall said, "I can find no state law mandating that any city provide fire protection services. The closest thing I find is section 342.004 of the TLGC (View on pg 6) that states a city “may organize a fire

department….” I agree the overarching objective of all city actions is to provide for and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens, but can find no law that requires provision of fire protection services as a necessary

city action." The City’s Code of Ordinances does contain references to “fire department,” but does not officially establish a department (see sections 4.06.004, .031 and .032).

REMEMBER WHAT THE MCLENDON-CHISHOLM

CITIZENS SAID ABOUT TAXES, THE PASSING OF

THE CITY HALL BUILDING, THE BONDS, ETC?

7

"I would be willing to pay higher taxes for more or improved services."

"Taxes support the policies that are necessary. Determine what policies the citizens desire and are willing to pay for and then you can evaluate the tax that is needed."

"I am for tax increase to help fire fighters, police a growing community."

"Keep the taxes low.""This is why we need to carefully choose our elected leaders."

"I could not believe the tax increase that was passed without getting taxpayer consent...."

WHAT ARE SOME WIDE RANGE SERVICES THAT

WE COULD POTENTIALLY OFFER OUR COMMUNITY?

"Besides being a good steward, I want to believe that we are following through in what we are saying that we are doing. Number 1, is that we are LISTENING to the Citizens. Number 2, that we are BEING RESPONSIBLE in how we are

budgeting. And this is a good example of initializing a plan to request a feasibility plan that if it goes well will be an opportunity for the citizens to give us their input. It's the right thing to do for them to know we are doing the due

diligence of protecting their interests of keeping them informed and if they have the opportunity to vote on it. GREAT! Now it will set us on the path of a historic event or end the drama of wondering about our fire service agreements."

"Obviously, we would post the call for requests on our website and social media pages. I recommended the highlighted items for the search committee to spend their efforts in contacting these associations. There are 100s

across the state of Texas, but there is 10 specific Fire Safety related organizations AND ICMA that I personally believe there is a WEALTH of information of those who have experience in working with city management contracts, active/retired fire chiefs, police chiefs and city managers. Many city administrations and councils go here."

MC FIRE MAP

39This map needs to be updated. It was created back in 2012.

"Thank you for reading and I hope that all would want to support this endeavor. Even if our

wonderful city is NOT meant to have a $1.8 Million Fire Station quoted in the 2018 Budget by the

MCVFD that is in addition to their "required funding that they want for 2018" of $429,511 that is listed

on Page 10 titled 6 Year Plan.

I believe it would be effective for all of us to know what our potential options based on the available data to determine what would work best for MC. And what is even great about this is you will have the opportunity to hear, learn and give input to help your elected officials know what you want.

I want to see GOOD PLANS that make sense."
