Request for Proposals Stó:lō Nation is requesting proposals from artisans to submit their art and craft work for consideration to be consigned at the Stó:lō Gift Shop. The Stó:lō Gift Shop will be promoting local, handmade and authentic Stó:lō and Aboriginal art and craft work. It is important that artwork is authentic from the Stó:lō and/or Aboriginal community. Stó:lō Nation would like to ensure the majority of the arts and crafts is Stó:lō Coast Salish, there is a range of products available and there are items that range in price. Deadline: Proposals must be submitted no later than: Wednesday September 17th at 4pm. This is not limited to artists registered to the Stó:lō communities. If the artist has more than one item, please include them in one proposal submission.

Timeline Proposals must be received no later than Wednesday September 17th, 2014 at 4pm. Review of the proposals will be completed by the Stó:lō Nation Tourism committee by Monday September 22nd. The selection of artisans will be notified no later than Wednesday September 24th. The selected successful artisans will have items for the Gift Shop by Tuesday September 30th, 2014 or earlier. Consignment Stó:lō Nation requires a 30% commission on arts and crafts sold at the Gift Shop. Commission owed to the artists will be disbursed by cheque on a bi-weekly basis. Advertising and Marketing Stó:lō Nation will ensure that items are marketed to the Stó:lō communities, Chilliwack and neighboring communities and tourists that visit the area. The Stó:lō Gift Shop will also be attending local events to sell. The Stó:lō Gift Shop will also be open during cultural tours and events occurring on site. Items will also be available online at www.stolotourism.ca. Proposal Evaluation The Stó:lō Tourism committee will be reviewing the proposals and will be keeping the following criteria in mind: • Artist is of Stó:lō or Aboriginal descent • Ensuring a range of items that represent traditional Coast Salish art. • Ensuring there is a range of items in the gallery that vary in price. Definitions Aboriginal A person of First Nation, Metis or Inuit descent Arts and Crafts Handmade items Artisans A person skilled in an applied art; a craftsperson, or a person or company that makes a high quality or distinctive product in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods. Authentic Of undisputed origin or authorship; genuine. Consignment An arrangement whereby goods are left in the possession of another party to sell. Typically, the consignor

receives a percentage of the sale.
