CB1 Battery Park City Committee Report – 3 June 2020 6 | VIII. BPC Sustainability Plan

o On Earth Day 2020, BPCA issued the Battery Park City Sustainability Plan, a comprehensive pathway to achieve progressive sustainability targets over the next decade, and laying the groundwork for continued sustainability action after 2030.

o Developed in consultation with a broad range of residential, local, and governmental stakeholders, the Plan provides the framework for developing and implementing a carbon neutral Battery Park City by the middle of the century.

o The BPC Sustainability Plan also calls for more green space, less energy and water use, multi-modal shared streets, and better air quality in BPC.

o Later this year, BPC Sustainability Plan to be accompanied by a set of two enabling documents: The new Green Guidelines will

provide detailed guidance to BPCA and to Battery Park City building owners, managers, and tenants, including the steps necessary to achieve a more sustainable Battery Park City

The Implementation Plan will outline the policies, programs, partnerships, tools, and funding mechanisms that are available, or can be created, to assist in transforming the BPC Sustainability Plan into a reality

IX. BPC Beautiful! o Thank you to our dedicated BPC Parks Operations team for its unwavering

commitment to keeping Battery Park City beautiful during these challenging times. o Excerpt from May 28 letter in The Broadsheet, from BPC Resident Judy Sklover: “Leaving the isolation of my apartment and walking through the parks is up-lifting. It is reassuring to see everything so clean and in spectacular bloom. The first time I walked to Wagner Park and saw the New York Tough banner with the Statue of Liberty in the distance, I broke down in tears and then of course snapped a FAB photo for my Instagram. I posted pictures of the beauty I enjoyed and got many comments from friends asking where I was. I proudly replied that I was in my beloved neighborhood, and wasn’t I lucky… “Perhaps you would relay this message to the wonderful hardworking employees who maintain the parks. What they are doing is more important now than ever. At a time where everything feels uncertain, having the parks clean and beautiful is deeply reassuring.”

COMMUNITY INFORMED: Over three months, almost 500 people participated in development of the BPC Sustainability Plan, with public roundtables, pop-ups at public events and in the BPCA offices, and an online survey.
