NEIGHBORHOOD & PROJECT UPDATES: I. Storm / “Bomb Cyclone” / “Bombogenesis” Approaching o BPCA to provide updated information as it becomes available from City and other partners II. BPC Safety o Overall BPCA security assessment underway, to be completed during spring 2018 o “Contact BPC Ambassadors for non-emergency assistance” signs delivered to local schools and child care institutions for posting III. Tree Recycling in BPC o Collection began December 26; to continue through early January o Leave undecorated trees curbside for pickup by BPC Parks team – no tinsel, ornaments, or lights please! o Recycled trees used locally throughout BPC parks for various purposes, including composting, plant protection, and soil insulation & enrichment o Video from one of last year’s tree-chipping sessions can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaFWNXimdTA IV. I. Storm / “Bomb Cyclone” / “Bombogenesis” Approaching o BPCA to provide updated information as it becomes available from City and

VI. Launch of Electronic Permitting (“ePermit”) System

o First phase of online permitting application now live o Allows easy filing and secure payment for more than a dozen permit types across

15 outdoor BPC parks locations o Additional locations – BPC Ball Fields, Community Center at Stuyvesant High

School, Pier A Plaza, 6 River Terrace – to be added in 2018 o permits.bpca.ny.gov/applicationnew.aspx

VII. “Bed A” / Gateway Property Line Wall Project

o Work to restore the planting bed and repair portion of damaged property line wall between Gateway Plaza and BPC Esplanade substantially complete

o New plantings to be completed spring 2018

VIII. 200 Rector Place Interior Fit Out o Work underway on new community space, office space & Allied Universal

Command Center, replacing former space @ The Regatta o Targeting end of February 2018 for completion

I. BPC Winter Events Calendar Release – December 21 o More than 500 public programs and events from January to April o Largest slate of winter programming yet includes cultural and artistic workshops, talks,

fitness programs, music, games, BPC’s Annual Art Exhibition and much more: Meet Me in the Kitchen – Good Nutrition! Free, six week series of classes at Asphalt

Green kitchen; open to all adults:

II. Winter Solstice Celebration @ Sunrise/Sunset (Revolution) – December 21 o Free event featured astronomers describing fascinating astronomical alignments

illuminated on winter solstice, Celtic music and stories, against backdrop of light and movement on Sunrise/Sunset (Revolution) art installation at Pier A Plaza

III. Fall Chess Tournament – December 9

o Free session saw roughly 30 young contestants across two divisions participate in

Swiss-style competition; Winter Chess Tournament begins January 9

IV. Teardrop Park Sledding Extravaganza – December 9 o Teardrop Park opened for sledding at request of BPC Committee and parents

V. Holiday Lights – December 7

o Hundreds of BPC residents attended annual celebration at South Cove, with warm beverages, cookies, caroling, and one very special guest!

o Newly-planted eastern white pine tree includes more than 2,000 lights o Thanks to all who attended & brought gifts for donation to Stockings with Care
