Collaborative Solutions to Strengthen Community Resilience Post Disaster” By Duncan Gibb, conducted by ICE NIT Student chapter

On 21st January, 2015 “ICE UK Student Chapter" Of Narula Institute of Technology has been Organized a seminar on " Collectively We are Stronger-Engineers Generating Collaborative

Solutions to Strengthen Community Resilience Post Disaster ".

ACTIVITIES OF THE SEMINAR:- On 21st January, 2015 "ICE UK Student Chapter" of Narula Institute of Technology has organized the 10th Brunel lecture, by Mr. Duncan Gibb, which was an honour for the institue as well as for the student members of ICE.



The seminar started at 4.30 p.m when Dr. Ayanangshu Dey (kolkata rep. of ICE) delivered his warm welcome speech for Mr.Gibb and the other ICE officials.

After that honorable principal of Narula Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. M. kanjilal also welcomed Mr. Gibb and show her gratitude.



After that flower bouquet was handed over to our distinguish guests by our student members.

After that Mr. Balaram Mukharjee, and Mr. Ayanasnshu Dey have delivered speeches where they introduced themselves and also gave a brief introduction about Mr. Duncan Gibb and his achievements in civil engineering fields. Mr. Duncan Gibb is the General Manager of SCIRT (Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team), New Zealand and he has also achieved much

prestigious position in civil engineering fields.

As everyone was eager to listen Mr. Gibb, therefore they handed over the mic to him.



Lecture on " Collectively We Are Stronger-Engineers Generating Collaborative Solutions To Strengthen Community Resilience Post Disaster " By Mr.Gibb:-

Mr. Gibb started his lecture. At first he showed his gratitude to the institute for such a warm welcome and then he started his session.

He briefly gave us an idea about New Zealand and the city of Christchurch, about its geological position, about its population. He also showed us how earthquake prone is the country is by the slides.



Then he spoke about post disaster management and what engineers should do in these situations? He emphasized on "proper planing", as we can't stop the disaster, proper planing will help us to come back to normal life in the quickest way.

He also discussed about engineers working with other professionals, sustainable development, Elevation of human population by civil engineers etc.

He talked a lot about, how people of Christchurch collaborate and help each other for the rehabilitation. They know what to do in such position. Even students forms groups, known as the

"Student Army” to help out the affected people.

Before he finished his lecture, he asked for any question and our students members asked

him very essential questions which turned him on to discuss a few more things.



PRESENTATION CEREMONY: Dr.Ayanangshu Dey requested Prof.Abhipriya Halder( Faculty Adviser of ICE UK student Chapter) to present the memento to Mr. Duncan Gibb .

Honourable H.O.D of civil engineering department Prof.C.S. SenMajumdar delivered a closing speech where he acknowledged Mr.Gibb for coming in our institution and giving us the oppurtunity to attend the lecture and he also thanked the audience for being a part of the session.

It was followed by a photo session with students and eminent guests and faculty members
