Ian Ringrose voted best denturist after 36 years

Since being established in 1974, the Ringrose Denture Clinic has made thousands of dentures and sent home thousands of satisfi ed customers.

“We continue to strive to remain at the forefront of denture fabrication through continuing education and research and through the application of unique clinical procedures,” says owner Ian Ringrose.

Ringrose is an expert in the design, construction, insertion and adjustment of removable dentures, as well as implant-supported dentures. That, along with his expertise, meticu-lousness and professionalism are the reasons he won the dia-mond award for the Best Denturist category in the Renfrew Mercury’s Readers Choice Awards for a second straight year.

“Ninety-fi ve per cent of our customers are referred to us by satisfi ed customers,” says Ringrose, adding that the clinic’s friendly, experienced staff and after-service care continue to bring people back.

The professional staff at Ringrose Denture Clinic personally han-dles every step in the construction of customers’ dentures. There is even an on-site laboratory to produce personalized dentures.

“I love what I do because it’s satisfying to see the change I can make in people’s lives,” Ringrose says. “The difference quality dentures can make to a person’s overall health is remarkable.”

Gourleys Sporting Goods Go Platinum

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my customers for helping me im-prove my business so I can better serve their needs. I have entered into my 3rd year owning the store and have put in a lot of hours in the process. My staff and I take pride in being able to supply people with quality hunting and fi shing supplies along with what knowledge we can offer and recognition for these efforts is always greatly appreciated. We are currently in the process of expand-ing our Sporting Goods space so that we

may carry a more in depth specialized in-ventory. We have recently partnered with Bluewave Energy this year, which is a Shell Distributor. This opportunity has opened some new doors for us to help better serve the valley with our full serve gas and diesel location. Through this process, we have chosen to be branded Race Trac Gas, which is a popular name in western Canada, as well as south of the border. They will be moving to their new building here this fall, which we are currently working on, and look forward to our grand opening and fu-ture business together.

Hot Dog! Odi’s Kingburger wins 4 awardsThere’s only one king when it comes to hamburgers and hot dogs in the Renfrew area: Odi’s Kingburger. The restaurant garnered two Diamond awards in the hamburger & hotdog categories, as well as two Platinum awards for fi sh & chips, and fries, in the 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards. “We really appre-ciate the fact we were chosen,” said Odi Audette, owner of Odi’s Kingburger. Audette said customers like the hamburgers because of the fact they use fresh ground hamburger and a specialty sauce that is popular. Despite winning in the hamburger, hot dog, fi sh & chips, and fries categories, Audette said some of the customers’ favourite menu items are the chicken fi ngers, and milkshakes that are offered in 10 different fl avours. “They are a couple of the

most poular items here,” he said. Odi’s Kingburger has been open since 1971, and Audette has owned the restaruant since 1973. The feedback he gets from the pubic reassures the nine staff that they are on the right track. “Just keep doing what you’re doing,” and “we’re glad you’re still here,” are just a few of the comments they usually hear. Audette said the staff has a lot to do with the awards they win. He also doesn’t have any plans to stop anytime soon. “I don’t want to retire,” he said. “I enjoy it. I enjoy the customers. I enjoy coming here to work.” Odi’s Kingburger is located at 546 Stewart St. It is open Sunday to Wednesday from 11am to 8pm, and Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 9pm. 613-432-6623.

Dragonfl y stays on course with awardsDragonfl y Golf Links has got your golfi ng needs down to a tee. The Renfrew-area golf course was the Diamond winner in the cat-egories of golf course, driving range, and golf store in the Readers’ Choice Awards. “It re-affi rms the work we’ve done here,” said club professional Kevin Brown, adding customer service is one of the reasons they took home so much hardware. “We go out of our way to look after our customers. We have a friendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere.” Located at 955 Opeongo Rd., Dragonfl y offers an 18 hole course, a driving range and a clubhouse. Also on site is a 150-person tent that was added to

the course in 2008 to allow a place for dinners, functions and weddings. “There’s been a lot of time and money put into the golf course,” said Brown. “We maintain that we have the best greens around.” A golfer doesn’t need a mem-bership to play at Dragonfl y. “When a golfer in town wants to hit golf balls, this is where they come,” he said. The golf course is also success-ful when it comes to helping out the commun-ity. They are generally booked when it comes to tournaments. Opened in 1938, Aikenhead’s Drugstore, owned by Sheila Kemp, is Renfrew’s only independently-owned pharmacy. With its cheery bright red façade in the middle of town, it’s hard to miss.

“We’ve been an independent store for 72 years,” says Kemp. “We strive to provide excellent and personalized patient care. Aikenhead’s has fi ve well trained pharma-cists on staff, including a Certifi ed Diabetes Educator and a Certifi ed Geriatric Pharmacist.” Aikenhead’s provides prompt and individual service. While they voted her store the number one drugstore, Kemp wants to let each of her customers know they are her number one priority. She makes sure she stays highly involved in the community through the Renfrew Rotary Club, the Bonnechere Manor Foundation & the Renfrew Tennis Club. Aikenhead’s supports the community by sponsoring sports teams, local charities, and fundraising events. Aikenhead’s major event is the Aikenhead’s Hos-pice Classic, a golf tournament that supports the Ren-frew Hospice. Staff also canvass, organize bake sales and participate in donation drives for the many causes in the Renfrew & area community.

24 Awards for WalmartThe Renfrew Walmart took home 24 awards from the Readers’ Choice Awards. Walmart won Dia-mond awards in bedding and cards; stationary & gifts categories, Platinum in the bicycle, bulk food, camera, children’s clothing, electronics, offi ce fur-niture/supplies, patio furniture, and photography & photo equipment categories, and Gold in the drug store, gardening, grocery, lighting, men’s clothing & accessories, paint & decorating, party supplies, pet store, pharmacist, shoes, sporting goods, vacuums, and window covering categories. “It feels amazing,” said Vito Molfetta, store man-ager of the Renfrew Walmart. “We do our best to offer the best customer service. We’re very proud of what we do.” He was pleased with the fact that

the awards show Walmart can be successful in both the merchandise, and service areas. Molfetta said they won so many awards because of one main reason: the customers. “The people matter,” he said. “The customers matter and the people here care.” Customer service is something that is stressed to all 250 employees from the time they are fi rst hired and all throughout their employ-ment at Walmart. “We talk about it with every-body, on an ongoing basis,” explained Molfetta. “Of what we do well and how we can do better. Stop the presses! Renfrew Printing WinsThe Readers’ Choice Diamond award for print shop was awarded to Renfrew Printing, a steadfast family business located on Renfrew’s main street for 39 years. Owner Bill McAdam says it is especially gratifying to be recog-nized by the very people who keep the business going - the customers. “I’m quite pleased with that because it’s nice to have the customers’ recognition,” says Mc-Adam. “We try to provide quality at a good price with friendly service” says McAdam. “I guess it works.” McAdam has witnessed much change over the years, including the onset of technology. Computers changed the industry and now, along with offset printing, Ren-frew Printing offers digital printing as well. The business has adapted to the changing of the times and made the necessary adjustments to keep customers happy.

The shop offers a range of printing services as well as faxing, photocopying, laminating, graphic design and binding. Printing projects run the gamut from business cards and envelopes to brochures. The business is a fam-ily affair with McAdam’s wife, Deja, daughter Colleen and nephew Paul working at the shop, along with Susan Verch, Bill Campbell, Brian Proulx and Carmel Panesar. McAdam was born and raised in Renfrew. He spent 30 years at Renfrew Collegiate Institute teaching business subjects. “I think working in a small town is good.” says McAdam. “You get to know the people who come in.” Quite a bit of Renfrew Printing’s business comes from re-peat customers, relationships he and staff have created with clients over the years. Brothers James and Chris Briscoe celebrated their third anniversary earlier this month. “We carry supplies for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, you name it,” says James. “We’re the largest party supplier in town.” The Warehouse is known for size and selection, but its reputation has also grown beyond expectations. The brothers’ store has been named the Diamond Award winner in the Renfrew Mercury’s 2010 Readers’ Choice Award in the Party Supplies category. “We’re defi nitely pleased to have been chosen,” James says. “We have price, selection and service,” he says. “We listen to what customers want and then go out and stock it. We can offer variety. Everyone offers balloons, and they might have 10 different types. We have hundreds, and people like that variety.” The huge selection and willing-

ness to provide what people want has resulted in repeat customers, from Pembroke to Ottawa. The brothers added scrapbooking supplies to their shelves when customers’ requests came to them. The Briscoe name is well known in Renfrew thanks to James and Chris’s father Charles, who owned the former Loeb store next door. James said that when his father retired a few years ago, he and Chris studied the market to see what kind of store would be successful. “We wanted to come up with something our-selves,” he said. “We talked to a lot of people and trav-elled around, down to Ottawa.” The result has been three years of good times for everyone.
