Although no definitive study has been completed on religious
tourism, some segments of the industry have been measured:
A study by the DELHI based National Council for Applied
Economy Research shows that of the 430 million tourist trip
undertaken in India. The largest proportion is made up of
religious tourism
Such journey, which are undertaken by both rural and urban
Indians, holidays in hill station and even trips at
metropolitan cities.
The research also shows that of all package tours organized
in India, religious trips accounted for 50% much higher than
leisure tour package at 28%
