Introduction

Thank you for choosing Expand Networks to help manage and optimize your applications and network. Expand Networks is proud to introduce AcceleratorOS 6.3.0, the latest WAN Optimization release, as its newest GA version.

Of the vast number of new features and enhancements, below lists some of the new features and enhancements inherent in this release only.

Note that new features and enhancements released in earlier versions of AcceleratorOS are documented in previous Release Notes corresponding with those specific releases.

Expand Networks would like to thank you for your participation in this release and as always would greatly value any feedback you may have. We all look forward towards a successful launch.

New in This Release

Accelerator 3830/3930

Expand is proud to introduce its new low-end platform in this release at a low price range. With its compact form factor, the 3830/3930 is ideal as a portable appliance, a small office or retail branch, with or without rack space. The 3830 and 3930 is offered as either flash, or hard-drive platforms. This new line fully supports all Accelerator functionalities including: acceleration, WAFS, QoS, compression, monitoring and reporting. The 3830/3930 performs up to 2Mbps compression and supports up to 100 remote Accelerators.

TCP Acceleration Enhancements

Expand‟s congestion avoidance has been enhanced to now support Hybla. TCP Hybla aims to eliminate penalization of TCP connections that incorporate a high-latency terrestrial or satellite link, due to their longer round trip times. It performs an analytical evaluation of the congestion window, and suggests the necessary modifications to remove the performance dependence on RTT.

Accelerator 6850/6950 Fiber Offering

The Accelerator 6850 and the Accelerator 6950, for the Datacenter now supports a fiber interface in addition to the copper interface. The fiber interface consists of two LC multi-mode fiber ports.

WAFS

CIFS Multiplexing solution is now supported allowing the performance of transactions with several different domain users on the same connection.

Additional Enhancements

IPSec version has been updated to now support large-scale deployments

1GB compact flash cards are now supported

Upgrade process enhancements to facilitate debugging.

New in 6.3 Beta 1 Release

Enhanced VMware Support

Deployed on VMware Server version 1.0 and 2.0, ESX version 3.5 and up and ESXi version 3.0 and up, the Virtual Accelerator fully integrates into the virtual infrastructure.

Scalability is achieved by running multiple instances of the Virtual Accelerator on one or multiple physical servers. The Virtual Accelerator fully supports VMware utilities and tools such as VMotion, HA, DRS and snapshot creation. The Virtual Accelerator also supports vSphere 4.0, VMware‟s latest release with additional VMware utilities such as Fault Tolerance and data recovery.

In addition, the Virtual Accelerator has full licensing server support via a connection to a stand-alone licensing server which it automatically recognizes and connects to within the network.

SAT Enhancements

In order to improve our best of breed WAN Optimization solution for applications used over a link, the new release introduces a bundle of enhancements focusing on this solution. The enhancements include:

Ease of Use and Configuration

Auto TCP Acceleration configuration- Up to today, TCP Acceleration was configured on each Accelerator separately and manually. With version 6.3.0, when creating the link for the first time on an end-point that has no global TCP acceleration configuration, TCP Acceleration will be configured for that specific link if that link is configured on the other side as well. Furthermore, when enabling TCP Acceleration on that link, for the first time, the system will support TCP-Acceleration configuration also on the remote end. All TCP acceleration parameters will be configured on the link..

Auto-RTT - When enabling TCP Acceleration on a link, the RTT setting by default is Auto. As such, the system will test the latency to the end point and will thereafter automatically set the RTT based on its results. This ensures the system will always operate with an accurate RTT.

Auto typical acceleration rate- with this feature, the system checks every two minutes the link‟s acceleration and updates the typical acceleration rate accordingly. With this addition, the window size is optimized thereby further accelerating traffic over the WAN.

Web Caching Web caching has become increasingly crucial for high latency SAT environments. As part of our continued support in these environments, web caching will be supported on a non-HD device, a 4GB reliable flash drive. The support includes our line of non hard-drive platforms - ACC1610, ACC3830, ACC4830, ACC6830, and ACC6850.

VDI/SBC

Many VDI and SBC deployments use RDP as their underlying transport protocol. RDP typically underperforms over WAN links with medium and high latencies, suffering heavily from bandwidth congestion, and making WAN optimization even more essential. In cases where RDP is encrypted or compressed, WAN optimization is either limited in its effect or in a worse cases, becomes altogether ineffective. The new RDP Proxy solves this by analyzing RDP traffic, disabling compression, and reducing the encryption to its lowest value, thereby delivering a better user experience. Additional enhancements aimed to promote the VDI and SBC markets include:

Citrix/ICA channel identification - This includes classification by published applications.

RDP L7 classification. RDP is classified with attributes including: Client Name, Channel Name, Version (4 and 5 or higher), and Encryption Level.

Updated PoAA values for thin client – PoAA values have been updated such that the threshold is set to the Link‟s MTU and the limit is set to half the Link's MTU

Multi-hop Routing

Release 6.3.0. introduces load balancing support in the Accelerator which enables routing outgoing traffic to multiple next hops. This feature allows improved support of sites with multiple routers and allows utilizing the multi-port capabilities of the ACC6X50.

WAFS Enhancements

Version 6.3.0 introduces WAFS transparency support for Vista and Windows 7 (with Kerberos authentication). An additional WAFS enhancement includes WAFS licensing support which is now fully incorporated into the Accelerator license and will be activated via the same license key as that of the Accelerator. Also new to WAFS, is the support of CIFS over TCP port 445.

New Decision Mechanism

A new decision mechanism has been introduced to provide an improved marking infrastructure as AcceleratorOS marks packets and sessions. The main improvements include additional marking capabilities

With this new decision mechanism in place, it is now possible to mark specific applications as do-not-tcp-accelerate or do-tcp-accelerate under TCP acceleration exclusion feature.

In addition, marking of Diffserv values are available on a per application basis (enabling the use of QoS policy rules per Diffserv class).

Additional Enhancements

Additional enhancements provided in this version include:

Licensing is supported for QoS, TCP Acceleration, Web Caching, in addition to IPsec, L7QoS, WAFS and Bandwidth

The user interface has undergone naming improvements to facilitate usage and usability.

Timezone - The date and time can now be configured along with the relevant timezone

5. When upgrading from 6.0.0, the following changes and enhancements to Web Acceleration should be noted:

The default cache sizes for HTTP and FTP Acceleration services were fine-tuned to provide optimal acceleration in the general case.

Cache size values that have been manually configured will be retained during the upgrade. If the cache size configuration has not been changed from its initial default value, the new default cache size will be automatically set after the upgrade.

The actual cache size value is both feature and platform-dependent, but in general will be smaller than the default value of the cache size in 6.0.0.

If the amount of cacheable HTTP traffic that passes through the Accelerator is larger than that of generic WAN traffic, it is advisable to fine-tune the Web Acceleration cache size.

The WebUI statistics should work when a large number of links are created

This document and all the information herein are the exclusive property of

Expand networks. Do not copy, distribute, print or disclose this material

without prior permission from Expand Networks. PN: AOS_630B_RN_060610

AOS-9438 If the SNTP service is enabled but an SNTP server IP address is not configured a dummy address is used. This will likely cause NTP connection loss warnings in the even log.

AOS-8415 Statistics may be incorrect while using "do not accelerate" decision.

AOS-8161 In some scenarios Application OUT traffic is not displayed when QoS aggregation is enabled.

AOS-8134 When working with RTM and Citrix acceleration enabled, Citrix L-7 applications are not discovered and their statistics are not counted.

AOS-8015 Acceleration over 9999% is displayed as 0% in statistics table.

AOS-7138 Graphs cannot be printed directly via the WebUI. To print a graph, first save it to a file.

AOS-6710 Statistics information is gathered for the first 140 detected applications only.

AOS-6708 Traffic discovery also displays the Accelerator‟s own HTTP traffic.

AOS-6581 The scale of the utilization graph for detected applications may be inaccurate as it uses link speed based on the non-link bandwidth (that has a default of 100 Mb). To resolve this, the scale can be manually changed to the correct bandwidth.

AOS-6509 L-7 Citrix NFuse protocol is identified as L-7 HTTP.

AOS-5880 On Accelerators 4820 and 1820, Ethernet 0 Activity LED may blink even if it is not connected.

Networking

AOS-17463 After reboot the link state turns to „Active‟.

AOS-17509 RDP Proxy - opening RDP connection directly to the ACC causes rdp_proxy to take 100% CPU, disabling it returns error -1

AOS-17463 In some cases, following reboot, one of the link become active. This may occur when the number of links becomes larger than the topology size.

AOS-16461 PoAA: thin client's parameters have been updated

AOS-15881 The DHCP Relay process should not shut down when the parent telnet session is terminated.

AOS-15865 VLAN configuration should be placed before HSRP/VRRP configuration

AOS-15572 ETH0 Act LED blinks although no cable is connected.

AOS-15214 "no ip route" command deletes all entries of the specific network from routing tables.

AOS-14682 SCPS on WAN only is now supported.

AOS-14322 VRRP and HSRP should not work with packet interception RIP enabled

AOS-14425, AOS-9129

Accelerator with SCPS responds to a "SYN" packet that arrived from a client with an "ACK" instead of a "SYN/ACK"

AOS-13752 HSRP Authentication with 8 char is not working

AOS-13285 When IPSec license is expired and reboot is performed, the link changes to initializing. Renewing IPSec license won‟t change to it to accelerating. In such cases IPSec links will need to be reconfigured.

AOS-11894 Core size for the ACC6810 and the ACC4830 should be 256 MB

AOS-10120 There should be a way to configure a specific port to be excluded from the Kpepd

AOS-9461 Traffic accelerated by Web Acceleration and WAFS are shaped by inbound QoS though they are not necessarily originating from the WAN.

This document and all the information herein are the exclusive property of

Expand networks. Do not copy, distribute, print or disclose this material

without prior permission from Expand Networks. PN: AOS_630B_RN_060610

AOS-8628, AOS-8627

TOS values are not preserved by Web Acceleration.

WAFS

AOS-17627 WAFS Authentication - Mutli-domain authentication fails.

AOS-17375 When using Kerberos autoconfig python error indicating to configure manually may be received.

AOS-17273 WAFS authentication – when receiving a "logon failure" response from the EFS, the entire session is killed.

AOS-17248 "Auto-discovery" of printers in CUPS service is turned off.

AOS-16657 WAFS Management FID list auto sizing on Accelerator 6950 should be supported

AOS-16086 After WAFS is transparency enabled and returns from Disconnected mode, the share list cannot be retrieved.

AOS-15958 WAFS printing - working with some drivers (HP) has a very slow response time to display properties

AOS-15186 WAFS writing a document to a directory prevents from other users to access to that same directory

AOS-14974 After disabling global SCPS on FBD , WAFS still accepts connections with window scaling

AOS-14587 Transparency doesn't work when we change the operation mode. Please refer to Tech Alert TA_090908 for more information

AOS-13527 WAFS should work with default MTU for EXPS0

AOS-8319 Deployment configurations that involve multiple virtual servers per branch require NetBIOS name resolution. In a deployment configuration with a single virtual server per branch, both NetBIOS and DNS name resolution can be used.

Other

AOS-17565 SSL certificate has been renewed and is now valid till 2015

AOS-17387 Connectivity using VACC image is dependent on MAC address location

AOS-17257 WAFS FBD is licensed but the WebUI shows this feature is not licensed.

AOS-15180 /var/log/httpd/ssl_scache.pag is not part of the log-rotate mechanism

AOS-14708, AOS-15848, AOS-14711,

Improvement: Security vulnerabilities has been improved.

AOS-9466 If there is a single user configured and the command user <user> password local

none" is issued then that user is removed and there is no way to login except using the root user via the serial console.

AOS-8749 The "ManageEngine" Netflow collector will report the actual throughput on the Accelerator twice.

AOS-8693 "," character is not supported in web cache direct and no-cache rules.

AOS-6532 When multiple attempts are made to change the Accelerator local IP to a new IP subnet mask, the previous IP address is kept and can be seen in the remote subnet list.

AOS-5714 When using the Web UI with HTTPS, a “Hostname mismatch” message appears. This message should be disregarded.

AOS-5612 When attaining statistics, CPU utilization is high when enabling HTTP Layer-7 application discovery. To resolve, HTTP Layer-7 discovery should be used for less than 10 minutes.

Networking

AOS-16827 The RDP channel ID attribute displayed on the show ms-terminal-server command is incorrect

AOS-15962 When running ACCdump, there are some discrepancies between the WebUI and CLI interface definition.

AOS-13540 When upgrading from a version using WCCPv1 to a version using WCCPv2, if the service IDs overlap, some/all the old settings might not be transferred. This will need to be verified

AOS-13340 Clear Links are dropped when Subnet 0.0.0.0 is defined on IPsec Link

AOS-12850 In SA renegotiation only first IPsec-policy is sent towards other side, instead of all three

AOS-12766 When link option negotiation failed, the user is not notified.

AOS-8818 DNS Masquerading will not function properly for CIFS clients that have logged on to a Domain Controller that is also the DNS name server.

AOS-8027 In some scenarios, after WebUI timeout a new WebUI login session is opened in the WAFS configuration pop-up.

AOS-7196 When RTM is used in an On-Path deployment, the WAN routers (and any other devices located between the router and the Accelerator) are not accessible

without prior permission from Expand Networks. PN: AOS_630B_RN_060610

from the remote network.

To access the WAN router, exclude it from the link.

AOS-6890 CPU on some low-end routers may not be powerful enough to provide routing information via Router polling.

AOS-6870 Accelerator will not distribute routes in an authenticated RIP environment if used on a VLAN interface.

AOS-6843 Subnets detected by non-native VLAN interfaces and RIP/OSPF cannot be reached.

AOS-6833 It is not possible to create a virtual link to local subnets that were detected by OSPF. For a possible workaround, the status of the subnet can be manually changed to „do not advertise,‟ delete the subnet and recreate the virtual link.

AOS-6794 If a VLAN interface (native tagged) was configured, using the RIP protocol does not update route rules.

AOS-6750 After adding or deleting native VLAN interfaces, all previously defined ARP entries that were manually added will be removed from the ARP table.

AOS-6749 Adding an ARP entry while a native VLAN tagged interface exists is not possible.

AOS-5622 DHCP requests t receive the IP address of hosts from a server across the Expand link do not work. To work around this problem, the bootp and bootps applications should be set with 'Do not tunnel' decisions.

WAFS

AOS-16105 do-not-TCP accelerate is not supported for WAFS and RDP and Web cache proxies.

AOS-15251 Deleting a printer does not delete its associated port on the FB

AOS-15177 Following an upgrade, _dsmonit setup should be restarted.

AOS-12706 The replication user gets locked on the DC in cases where replication has started.

AOS-12962 Limit quota per share doesn't work with WAFS

AOS-11578 Adding a printer using add printer wizard isn‟t supported using Vista

AOS-10213 The WAFS service may fail to stop when issuing the service stop command. The status of the WAFS service should be checked by using the service status command.

AOS-10800 Authentication may fail if the name of the FB is the same as the NetBIOS name of the domain.

AOS-8732 Cannot refer to Share called "Global".

AOS-8318 When a virtual server is configured in the FileBank, once the connectivity is established, the FileBank discovers the virtual server. The virtual server will not be properly discovered if a File Server that also acts as a domain controller has the same name as the file server. Virtual name differentiation can be achieved

by means of file server alias (FileBank Director side), and/or virtual server suffix/prefix/virtual-alias (FileBank side).

AOS-8214 Fetch jobs and replication paths should not use DFS paths, but should use the exported virtual server names in their paths.

AOS-8064 WAFS configuration popup has different timeout than main WebUI session.

AOS-4247 When WAFS logs are cleared using the „log clear‟ CLI, replication tasks are aborted.

Web Acceleration

AOS-8693 Regular expressions in Web Acceleration rules may not include the "," character.

AOS-8931 User may experience slow response when repeatedly refreshing pages when Microsoft ISA™ proxy and NTLM authentication are configured. To overcome this issue, reconfigure the Microsoft ISA™ proxy.

VACC/Upgrade/Other

AOS-17322 Keepalive dialer flushes the acceleratation core when it redials resulting in slower performance.

AOS-17261 There may be some errors on the console during the upgrade process indicating “Got Route Loop”

AOS-16919 When changing the time zone in the CLI or WebUI, the change needs to be saved for the logs to be in synch.

AOS-16921, AOS-15986

VACC – local subnets should be added to the accelerator

AOS-16464 Decision is not enforced properly on Citrix published application attribute
