Relationships Definition: It is human to have the need to build and strengthen fulfilling relationships. And all people share five types of relationship needs: friendship, love, touch, intimacy, and sex. The concept of "relationship" is broad and varies from person to person. To most people, a personal relationship refers to family or a close connection formed by emotional bonds and interactions. These bonds often grow from and are strengthened by mutual experiences. Keeping and caring for healthy and positive realationships are crutial to your health. Recently I have rediscoverd a relationship that I had let go of, unintentionally, and I had not realized how huge an impact that it had on my life. Once I reached out and we cleared the air our relationship was reestablished. I cannot tell you what a stress lifting experience that was. Another beautiful thing was that I had found I now had more energy and courage to try that with my other relationships... all because that burden was lifted. If you find yourself feeling lonely, isolated, or even guilty because of how a certain relationship is going in your life, try being the first to reach out. You may be surprised with the reaction you get, it could be a good one. Sometimes we make things in our heads much bigger than they really are. I know I did. In order to get to the place where I could reach out I needed to do a little soul searching, here are some of my considerations: Identifying Your Relationship Needs* Ask yourself are you currently filfilling, or ignoring your needs Check to make sure you aren’t fulfilling your needs in a superficial way Maybe there is no good guy or bad buy, only a misunderstanding Try reaching out to this person in an open and curious way Start small, maybe with just a phone call or an email Be responsible for your own happiness Remember that if the person can’t fulfull a certain need that’s okay This is the fourth of twelve Circle of Life components, the twelve parts of your life that contribute to your health. Please feel free to share with your family, friends, co-workers, anyone and everyone you know.
