Indian customs - A hurdle
• Nemko in partnership with experienced local customs agent
• Door to door service provided• Customs clearance and delivery to Nemko local lab partner• Samples can be shipped back to the factory after BIS
registration is granted• Customs cost is approximately 16-28% of the product value.

• “Self declaration - Conforming to IS….. R-xxxxxxxx” both on the product and packaging.
• The text shall be on the data plate or a label containing markings with the ratings, specifications, model number etc.
• Font size of 12 or 1/2 the size of the brand name, whichever is lower, with a minimum of font size 6.
• The text shall be similar in size to the other certification marks.

• MeitY engages 5-6 companies to do marketsurveillance. Surveillance will be done within two years (may be four months).
• The E-DAC (department of Meity) sends email to the factory who must ship two samples to their local rep. in India.The surveillance company seals samples and original test report at the rep. One sample given to lab for verification test, the other kept at surv. comp. or local rep. or Nemko partners in case differences are revealed.
• Factory is billed. Nemko may take care of the payment on behalf of the factory.

• Testing required • A supplementary report is issued from the lab to be
submitted to BIS• BIS does not issue a letter, they only file the report• Submission fee is charged by BIS• Change of the local representative is allowed by BIS. A
nomination letter in the name of the new local representative would be required.

• No testing required, as of today’s date (providedthere’s no new mandatory version of the standard).
