● T wo community characteris tics explain a s ignificant portion of C P P variability: the region of the country and the s ize of the county in which the initiative was implemented.

● C ommunities in the Northeas t produced the highes t C P P ‐INT , compared with thos e in the Wes t, S outh and Midwes t. S maller counties produced higher C P P ‐INT than did larger counties .

● T he pars imonious model s howed that urbanicity, region, county s ize and per cent African–American accounted for 18.6% of the C P P ‐INT variability.

“Y ou need to bring an equity lens to des igning community programs and policies intended to promote healthier weight among children,” F awcett s aid. “Y ou s hould not as s ume that all children will benefit equally from community inves tments that are not targeted and adapted to addres s children and families , s uch as African-Americans and His panics , that experience health inequities . What works in one community —predominantly white and affluent — may not work as well in a community where more supports for those experiencing health disparities are needed to assure healthy conditions for all our children.”
