Here’s to a winning season for Capalaba & Mt Gravatt VW and Redland PASSION, performance and premium qualities are key ingredients in sporting and professional endeavours and they are the key links in Redland’s new affiliation with Capalaba and Mt Gravatt Volkswagen – our newest major sponsor for 2017 and beyond.

The gold class partnership was sealed this week when Capalaba Volkswagen and Redlands officials met at their Showroom on Redland Bay Road. Redlands players and officials are now proudly driven by Capalaba VW in the best of the best all-new Tiguan, sporting the distinctive Redland Bombers logo it will

be seen around the suburbs in the coming months.

Capalaba VW Marketing Executive Mrs Sonja Robinson declared the deal was organised swiftly and smoothly. “We jumped at the chance to get on board,” Mrs Robinson said. “When Maree rang us with the possibility of becoming a major sponsor the green light was given within a matter of days.

“We are very big on community involvement and being in partnership with Redland Bombers is an ideal way for us to show that support.” Mrs Robinson said like the company’s customers who “are welcomed into the VW family” this new bond was the joining of forces of two families keen to further the other’s cause. The slogan “Passionate. Performance. Premium” is designed to reflect the capacity of each partner. “It’s where we want to be and it’s also where the club wants to be,” Mrs Robinson.

The company’s Sales Manager, Robert Felesina, was thrilled with the sponsorship deal. “We’ll be working as a team – just as the Redland club will be doing,” he said. “I think the atmosphere already being generated is outstanding and we’re looking forward to it being ongoing.” Mr Felesina said the company would be supplying a different vehicle to the club throughout the season. “We wish the club well for the new season and we’re keen to be a part of what I am sure will be a successful venture.”

Redlands president, Mr Col Tobiasen, was overjoyed with the new deal. “It is great to be able to attract new sponsors and I am looking forward to it being an ongoing relationship. “I think the arrangement will prove beneficial to both parties “Capalaba & Mt Gravatt Volkswagen will receive plenty of exposure, that’s for sure and our club is delighted to have them on board with us,” Mr Tobiasen said.

Leigh Harding - Coaches Report

With such a good young group already established and the inclusion of some highly talented recruits it’s an exciting time to be involved at the Redland Football Club.

The recruiting in the off-season targeted some taller key position players and we were able to gain some real talent in this area.

Recruiting Jackson Paine, Clay Cameron, Stephen Mills and the return of Sam Michael sees the team look much taller and allow us to play a little differently this season.

Other inclusions Soul Cormick, Jack Rolls, and Boyd Bailey give us more options around the ball and they have all integrated into the group very well.

We started our 2017 campaign on Nov 15th and we were able to complete 13 sessions Pre-Christmas. The focus was growing our game style through the implementation of specific drills. The boys have been able to adapt to the new drills and see the link between the drills and the way we want to play this season. The players to this stage have relished the challenge.

Post Christmas the boys all came back in good order after having 3 weeks off to enjoy the festive season with family and friends.

Since that safe return our focus has been on our structures and teaching these is something that can take time and patience. We eased back into training during that first week back but since then the intensity inside training has increased dramatically and the players have adapted well. We have now

come to the stage in our training program where we are starting to look at completing some match simulation.

The boys feel they are ready for this and this excites us as a coaching group as we get to see if our planning and training has been successful. Footy is always a work in progress so from this point onwards we can focus on refining; teaching and growing the areas we need to.

I would like to thank our major sponsors Tidbold Real Estate and Pattemore’s Meats who have again come on-board and we are excited to have the new addition of Capalaba & Mt Gravatt Volkswagen to support the Redland Bombers for season 2017. All sponsors are vital to our short and long term success so I thank you for the contribution you make towards the club.

We look forward to getting back to Tidbold Park from a training and playing perspective soon and seeing our supporters at our games throughout season 2017.

RJAFC E-News

The RJAFC has hit the ground running in 2017 and we can’t wait for the footy to start back up again!

Pre-Season saw us mould together as a cohort to work together to get through the running meeting

new friends and coaches along the way. We have now progressed into age specific training where all

Youth age groups are training twice a week in preparation for Round 1 on Sunday, March 19. In the

lead up we have Sign On this coming weekend which will be a great opportunity to come down to buy

merchandise, meet coaches, sponsors and committee and commit to Season 2017.

Over the coming weeks we will have an Intra-Club practice match to dust the cobwebs out and get an

idea of how we sit for the season. This will be held on Sunday, February 12 at Griffith Moorooka and all registered youth

players are welcome to come down and have a kick!

From there, we will take all teams away on a pre-season camp away from football to get to know their new coaches and

teammates, with more information on this to come post-sign on.

In our Junior space, we have Auskick about to kick off again for Season 2017 at Victoria Point State High School and if you are

interested in getting involved in AFL this is the perfect starting platform to get started. For more information, please go to

www.auskick.com.au to register! All players involved in the U9 – U11 space please know that training will begin for you at

Victoria Point State High School from Thursday, February 9 from 4 – 5:30pm. The Junior season does not start till Saturday,

April 22 but it is great to get down to focus on your skills and run around with your team mates!

Our girls have been phenomenal so far with their skills and understanding of the game and we can’t wait to see them in full

flight come our first practice match on Sunday, March 5. The girls over the past weeks have been working on their skill

development and game sense to have them ready for the season start. We were lucky enough to have Sabrina

Frederick-Traub from the Brisbane Lions come down and help out with training earlier in January which was an awesome

experience for the girls. Later in February, we will take the girls to go see Sabrina and the Brisbane Lions play Collingwood in

an AFLW game to see their role models in action!

“A few weeks of work experience is all it took to convince employer Kingsley Homes that AITC student, Charlton Anderson, was going to be a valuable addition to their team as a carpentry apprentice”.

Leanne & Marty Anderson are very proud parents and have been catering in The Shark Kitchen for many years and are part of the Sharks Family.

The Shark Kitchen open for lunch and dinner daily.

Preseason has begun with training on the bottom oval on Tuesday nights from 6.30pm until 7.30pm. We are getting over 25

blokes each session but as the season draws near it would be great to see some more of you 35 and 45 year olds on the park.

Season training begins in March where we move back to the top oval and start training 2 nights a week, Monday from 6.30pm

and the main training session on Thursdays from 7pm. Stay tuned for the start date.

Our Bunnings BBQ is on February 25th at Victoria point from 7am, come along and get on of the best snags you will ever eat

cooked by Sausage Sauvy himself. Better still, help him out and put your name down for the day.

The Charity match this season will be held on our home ground and feature teams from around Brisbane. Bring along your

money and partake in the many raffles and auctions on offer on Saturday March 18th or join in the fun and get on the field and

play. We again support the Wesley Hospitals Choices Cancer Support Centre and hope to raise even more money this year.

Details to follow shortly.

Don’t forget to come in and support the club that supports us
