Packington Landfill, the Suez-run site near Birmingham, once the busiest in Europe, stopped accepting material in
February 2015 after 50 years of operation. It is estimated that 35 million tonnes of waste are buried underground
within its 385 acre site.
Remediation work at Packington will restore the area with meadows, woodland areas, lakes and public footpaths
allowing locals views over the airport and the city of Birmingham.
Red has worked alongside Suez undertaking the restoration work here since 2012. Accepting Inert restoration Soils
and Non Hazardous materials, Red are contracted to import and screen more than one million m³ soils for the sites
remediation. Red undertakes the following at Packington:
Initial assesment of site investigation reports
Classification of waste streams
Facilitating haulage requirements
Handling and placement of waste streams
Processing soils for recovery.
