With the recent news that one of the pioneers of Emo music were reuniting (AmericanFootball) combined with the resurgence of this genre in the music world in the last two

or so years, I thought it was time to highlight some of my new favorite bands paving

the way for a new generation to get to know one of the most influential musical genres

to date.Disclaimer - When I say "Emo music," I am not talking about the mall pop punk emo that was popular in the 2000s (as in NOT

My Chemical Romance, etc - thats a different kind). When I mention "Emo" here, I'm talking about the music that derived from

80s Punk Rock/hardcore that is reminiscent of 90s "emo" bands such as Cap'n Jazz, Rites of Spring, The Promise Ring,

Jawbreaker, American Football etc.
