Capitalization Capitalization!Capitalize the first word of a title proper, alternative title, parallel title, or quoted title (a title embedded within other text); other words in English language titles are in lower case.

!Proper names are capitalized according to normal English practice (see RDA A.2).

!Capitalize the first word in a title.

!Capitalize other words within titles if these are proper names or if applicable to the language involved. Refer to RDA’s Appendix A: Capitalization

!The rule on “Transcribe as you see” or “What you see, is what you get” shall be followed with discretion. The cataloger’s judgment will prevail.

!Do not add words such as “by” or “and” unless these appears in the source. But if these words appears, transcribe them as you see them. That is “and” must be “and”; the ampersand “&” will be transcribed as “&”.

!Do not abbreviate any word in a statement of responsibility unless it is abbreviated in the source.

!Transcribe a statement of responsibility in the form in which it appears on the document being cataloged.

!If the statement of responsibility names more than 3 persons, families or corporate bodies, omit all but the first of each group. Indicate the omission e.g. Juan Ocampo [and three others]. It is also an option to give all the names of the co-creators, if the Library decides to adopt this. (RDA 2.4.1.5)

! Record all other places mentioned if they are located in the Philippines, even if they are not named first.

Extent Extent!RDA offers three ways of recording the extent of the element when describing a collection:

-give the number of items, containers, or volumes.

-the amount of storage space-follow the guidelines for extent

and record the number of units and a terms describing the type of unit.

!For a resource consisting of a single volume, record the extent in terms of number of pages, leaves, etc., with pages, leaves, etc. written in full, e.g. 417 pages or 92 leaves.

!Data for multi-volume resources shall be recorded in terms of number of volumes, cards, sheets, etc. with volume, cards, sheets etc. written in full, e.g. 24 volumes or 52 sheets.

Providing Acquisition and Access Information

!Restrictions on access note is described on the 506 field.

!Restrictions on use elements are recorded in the 540 field

!URL is recorded in the 856 field, it allows the users to go directly to the resource by clicking on the link in the database record. It serves as a locator for many types of electronic resources, including “in-house” resources that may reside on the library’s local network.

!State clearly the restrictions on use, especially for electronic resources (Tag 540)

!Record the URI by copying from the web site of the resource and pasting it on the bibliographic record (Tag 856)
