The competitive landscape in the Caribbean

Region has intensified over the course of the

last ten years, with a pronounced escalation

during the last half of that decade. There is

ample evidence in both Cayman and The Ba-

hamas to support this statement, and our

business model has had to evolve to take ac-

count of the changing surroundings.

Competition alone is not the only challenge

that confronts us, and, as we survey the busi-

ness environment in our markets, it is clear

that we will have to constantly recalibrate

our approach in order to improve our chances

for successful outcomes, both in terms of

meeting customer demands and the expecta-

tions of the other stakeholders that are con-

nected to our Group.

We have determined, as depicted in the dia-

gram below, that there are three key pillars,

underpinned by prudent and informed leader-

ship, that will drive the process for a winning

formula over the course of the next planning

cycle and we are firmly committed to navi-

gating what will be a fairly turbulent period

in the insurance sector throughout the region.

Each one of us has a part to play and in the

up-coming weeks your manager or depart-

ment head will be sharing more specific as-

pects of how your own activities will be inte-

grated into the overall Group’s objectives

going forward.

With challenges come opportunities, so we

have many reasons to be optimistic about our

future prospects as long as we commit our-

selves to the cause!

FIRST INSIGHT 2

New Year’s Resolutions

2016 is here! As we start this new year, we

make our resolutions to become better. We want

to be better at home, at work, at church, at

school, in our community…..everything and eve-

rywhere.

Research from Statistic Brain Research Institute

suggests there are four main categories of resolu-

tions:

1. Weight Related

2. Money

3. Self - Improvement/Education

4. Relationship

We often think of exercising and better eating

habits to take off a few pounds, managing our

money better, or getting along better with the

people we relate to.

Surprise, surprise….the number one ranking

went to “Self-Improvement/Education”. If

you think about this, you will understand why

this is so. The more we improve ourselves, the

more positively we look at life and so this will

impact all of the other three.

We invite you to take up the self-improvement

challenge. Find one skill that you would like to

improve on for 2016, be it communication, cus-

tomer service, decision making, setting priori-

ties, time management, leadership develop-

ment………..and the list goes on, set a goal and

achieve it!

Let 2016, be a year for you to be a better you!

Called to Service….

Grace Comunity Church cele-

brated its 70th anniversary with a

thanksgiving service and ordained

six new deacons including An-

dalino Sands. These “new lead-

ers” were called to serve the

membership and mission of the

church.

The Bible tells us that “if any man

desires to be first, the same shall

be last of all, and servant of all. Jesus set the wonderful example

of washing the feet of his disciples to demonstrate the dignity of

service.

We congratulate “Andy “ for taking on the awesome responsibility

of being a servant leader!

versary Banquet held on

ted service to the Asso-

ciation. Mr. Ward was

Life Long Learning - The journey continues….. - by Marvin Bain

FIRST INSIGHT 3

November 5, 2015 marked the

date of the re-launch of our

Lifelong Learning Program!

We invited some new members

to join this group and this

“infusion of “fresh blood”

mixed with the professional and

personal experiences of long

serving members will sustain

the vitality of the program. The

new members are Kent Sands,

Desiree Taylor, Travis Donald,

Shavonne Moss, and Insley

McKinney.

Patrick Ward opened the session

with his central theme being the

importance of team work in today’s fast moving business world. The three pillars he focused on were:

Time: The timeline between formulation of a concept to implementation is “shrinking”.

Team Work: Teams must work as a cohesive unit to achieve success and to ensure critical deadlines are met.

Innovation: If we are to continue to be “First In Insurance, today and tomorrow we have to continue to develop cutting edge prod-

ucts to meet the needs of demanding consumers’. The Innovation Centre and Innovation Community are important “drivers” in-

volved in the conception to implementation phases.

Richenda King was the keynote speaker. Her theme was “Are You A Satisfied Or Engaged Employee?” “Satisfied employees

feel comfortable and are generally happy that their needs are meet. Engaged employees feel energized and dedicated . They are

highly involved in their work and the organization.” She focused on how the different levels of engagement impact on the job per-

formance and company revenue. We can hardly wait for the next session!

Planning to upgrade your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Instead of selling or recycling your old iOS devices, you can turn

them into home security cameras with the Presence app by People Power.

Setting up a home security system can involve buying expensive cameras, covering installation costs, and

paying a monthly service fee.

Entrepreneur Gene Wang began searching for a more cost effective way to protect his mother's house after it

was burglarized twice in one year. This lead to the development of the Presence app, a free app for iOS that

turns old Wi-Fi-enabled Apple devices into home security cameras.

"In the last 12 months, there have been like 50 million iPhones that have been replaced and a lot of people

keep that old phone and iPad because ... what do you do with these things? If you sell them, who knows if

your private information will be comprised," said Wang, the CEO of People Power. "So what we're doing is

breathing new life into these old devices."

You download the app on two devices -- one serves as a camera and the other becomes a monitor. Set up

the camera device in places you want to keep an eye on, maybe the front door or your living room. Then use

your other iOS device to monitor the camera feed in real time.

You don't have to monitor the feed 24/7. A motion detector feature will alert you if something moves in front of

the camera and will send you a 5-second video clip via e-mail. You can also check in with someone at your

home or business with two-way audio and video.

The system supports the iPad 2 and newer, the iPod touch 5th generation and newer, and the iPhone 3GS

and newer. The devices need to have a working camera as well as access to a constant power source and

reliable Wi-Fi.

Wang said so far the app has been used to stop a robbery in a home and catch thieves breaking into a ware-

house. He also said the Miami Unified School District in Miami, Ariz., voted to use the Presence app to set up

security cameras in schools and is asking the community to donate used smartphones.

But what's to keep someone from stealing the used Apple devices mounted on walls and ceilings?

Wang warns would-be thieves, "We're going to have a picture of you so that's not the brightest thing you can

do."

People Power will soon be offering a Pro subscription service that will offer more elaborate features, like tar-

geted motion detection and HD-quality video. They are also expanding to support connected devices beyond

iOS, including Android, and to allow for remote control of connected home gadgets like smart thermostats and

energy-efficient plugs.
