When you receive your vinyl kit, it will not be ready to paint on. You will need to clean it thoroughly of oils and in some cases with China vinyl you will need to remove mould release oils. ‘Mould release oils’ are harder to remove so we will explain how to do so effectively! The reason oil must be removed when painting with any type of paint is because if there are any oils remaining on the vinyl, paint will cure or set onto the oil and not the vinyl. This will cause the paint to eventually rub away. Some call this ‘Peeling’. To understand a little further as to why this process needs less attention with heat set paint such as genesis is because the mixing solution ‘Odourless thinners’ is a harsh chemical that can remove oils. Each wash using this solution is Essentially ridding oils. As water is used with air dry paint, you can understand why we must put a little more effort in such as using alcohol wipes or isopropyl alcohol spray to rid those oils before painting. If you do not follow this process we can not promise that your experience with air dry paint to be successful. PART 1 - You will need. Isopropyl Alcohol Prep spray or Alcohol rubbing. You should be able to find this at your local hardware store, Below are some examples. Spray bottle Alcohol wipes If you use a spray bottle version. Use a clean dry cloth to wipe off the oils. Continue to do this until you are sure the oils are removed. Don’t forget the creases and hard to see areas. You want any area you will be painting to rid of oils! Wipe over the vinyl quite firmly to remove oils. PART 2 - You will need. A Sponge (soft), Tooth and or nail brush , Dishwashing detergent (Any brand of dish detergent should work) Gloves, and Hot water Make sure the water is hot, this helps to remove oils! Use your dish detergent by adding as much as you would to hand wash your dishes. Use the soft sponge and wash the kit well. Use a tooth brush for the creases and small areas. This will help to remove any ‘Mould release oils’ and the alcohol prep spray. You do not want any alcohol to remain on the vinyl or it will react with the primer. When you have finished cleaning the vinyl, rinse the limbs under the tap with hot water and wipe over with a clean cloth to remove any detergent that might remain on the vinyl. Carefully place them on a rack to dry. Repeat this process if required. PART 3 - What you will need. Miracle Blend Primer, Cosmetic wedge and a Drying rack. Apply the primer by pouncing over the vinyl. Be careful to not touch the primer on the doll limb or it will remove it. Place the limb onto the drying rack to dry. You are now ready to paint!
