This past Lent I joined a small group for the first time,
and I would encourage fellow parishioners to
participate in a Faith and Fellowship group,
especially if you have never participated in small
group before. I have been active in the parish in
various ways through the years, and have heard
wonderful testimonies about the power of these
small groups, but never joined a small group because
I didn't think I would be comfortable "sharing" in this
way. This past Lent I finally tried it out, and it was,
and still is, a wonderful experience. In my small
group are a few parishioners I've known for many
years, and also a few people I met for the first time.
Putting aside time to read scripture outside of Mass,
and making time to meet with my group to reflect
upon and discuss scripture and to pray together has
added a new dimension to my faith practice. I have
found that discussing the relevance of the scriptures
to our daily lives with other adults in a comfortable
and casual setting is a positive way to deal with daily
challenges life brings us, and I have appreciated the
prayers and support the group provides to each
other. Everyone's faith journey is a unique, but if
you are looking to enrich yours, consider joining a
Faith and Fellowship group this fall.

This year, the Church will
celebrate Catechetical
Sunday on September 20,
2015, and will focus on the
theme "Safeguarding the
Dignity of Every Human
Person." Those whom the
community has designated
to serve as catechists will be
called forth to be commissioned for their ministry.
Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to
reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue
of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a
witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an
opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this
mission as a community of faith .
To learn more about how you as catechists and
teachers, as well as all the baptized can grow in
knowledge and faith, go to the USCCB website:
