LEARNING OBJECTIVESBy participating in this continuing medical education program, attendees will be better able to:
• Assess the current role of lipoprotein(a) in coronary artery disease and methods to target it clinically
• Review the latest evidence and guideline recommendations on acute myocardial infarction and valvular heart disease
• Explain the results of recent clinical trials and their impact on the care of patients with coronary disease
• Summarize the latest advances in interventional cardiology, including the role of combined use of dual antiplatelet therapy and anticoagulation
• Discuss the considerations that must be kept in mind in selecting between surgical and transcatheter aortic valve replacement
• Review the problem with subclinical valve leaflet thrombosis and novel approaches to prevention and management
• Explain the state of percutaneous mitral and tricuspid valve interventions
• Review novel pacing techniques such as leadless and His bundle pacing
• Explain how to address the issue of patent foramen ovale and left atrial appendage closure in patients with stroke or high risk for stroke
• Discuss contemporary catheter ablation strategies for the treatment of atrial fibrillation
• Review strategies for primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death
• Describe the pathophysiology of diastolic heart failure and emerging therapies
• Explain contemporary strategies to provide hemodynamic support in patients with cardiogenic shock
• Discuss how to evaluate and manage patients with peripheral arterial disease
• Review pulmonary hypertension (PH), including the role of cardiac magnetic imaging in early detection of PH
• Describe the major changes taking place in the U.S. healthcare environment, with a focus on its impact on population health overall and on cardiovascular health specifically
