free website that allows you to learn new vocabulary using flashcards, games and quizzes. I would

recommend that you spend some time on the “learn” section to familiarise yourself with the vocabulary,

before moving on to the games section and, finally, the “test” section to self-assess your understanding of

Mon genre de musique préféré

Bonjour!

Task 3 – Listening task. Listen to each person talking about music, and complete the table in English. The

sound recording will be on Classcharts for you to access.

(Use the key phrases below to help you!)

Page 6: Rastrick High School Home Learning Booklet Year 9 French: Half … · 2020. 9. 15. · Home Learning Booklet Year 9 French: ... In French, verbs end in -er, -ir, or -re when they

Task 1: Present tense -er verbs.

In French, verbs end in -er, -ir, or -re when they are in their infinitive form. This means that we don’t know

the tense, or who (the subject pronoun), yet. We need to conjugate the infinitive depending on the tense

we want to use and the subject pronoun e.g. I, you, we etc.

To conjugate -er verbs into the present tense (what you are doing/normally do) we need to take off the -er

ending and replace it with the following verb endings depending on who is doing the action. See the table

below to help (we will be using the -er verb écouter – to listen to):

So, j’écoute = I listen to. Can you complete the list below?

- I listen to = J’écoute

- You listen to (s.) =

- He/she listens to =

- We listen to =

- You listen to (pl.) =

- They listen to =

Task 2: translate the following into English:

Task 2: Reading activity. Read each text and then choose the correct option to complete each sentence.

Task 3: The near future tense (le futur proche). This tense explains what you are going to do.

Below is a very simple breakdown of how it is formed (it really is that simple to form!) All you need is your

conjugation of aller (e.g. Je vais = I am going) and then your infinitive (e.g. tchatter = to chat).

CONJUGATION OF ALLER: INFINITIVE:

• Je vais = I am going - télécharger (to download)

• Tu vas = You are going (s.) - tchatter (to chat)

• Il/elle va = He/She is going - surfer (to surf/browse)

• Nous allons = We are going - envoyer (to send)

• Vous allez = You are going (pl.) - poster (to post)

• Ils/ells vont = They are going - lire (to read)

So, how do we say the following in French?

1. I am going to read… =

2. We are going to download… =
