The Covid 19 pandemic struck very quickly and affected the world in ways not seen before. We are lucky here in Australia that due to early and strict interventions, we have not suffered the losses we see in many other countries. RAS had to adjust as well. We suspended most activities for 2020, including our Monday Art Studio meetings, our planned demonstrations and workshops, as well as our May 2020 annual exhibition at Little Bay. What we do and how we do it is different, but we are still here. Your committee has continued to work to keep you connected by setting up the ‘RAS Online Art Projects’ on our website. The RAS website now offers two ‘Sketch-A-Day’ galleries; one started in April, “Assortments” and a second began in May, “Out and About”. In June 2020, we set up an online Craft Gallery for our members, and an online Portrait Gallery page for interested members to submit their portraits (paintings, mixed media, craft, sculpture, photographs, etc.), including self-portraits, portraits of others, and pet portraits. RAS Calendar June – September 2020 Every Monday: Due to Covid 19, the Monday Art Studio at the RLI has been closed temporarily. Demonstrations & Workshops: All planned demos and workshops have been suspended. Members will be advised when the RLI reopens & our group activities are permitted to start up again. RAS Website Online Activities: A number of ongoing art and craft activities have been organized for members via the RAS website. Details are outlined in ‘Activities’ section of the Newsletter. Monday 22 nd June: The scheduled RAS General Meeting has been cancelled due to the Covid 19 restrictions at the RLI. As a way for members to participate in RAS activities, in lieu of attending the General Meeting, committee would like to invite members to send their comments via email to randwickartsocietyinc@gmail .com by 19th June 2020. Please include your ideas, questions, issues of concern, or other matters you would like to raise. The Committee will then attend to member emails/feedback at their June monthly meeting. The minutes of the meeting will be made available to all members. In May 2020 RAS also conducted a RAS Logo competition. Hopefully, things will continue to improve so that we can catch up soon in person at the RAS Monday Art Studio at the RLI. It is difficult, but we can do this.
