In 2006 COSFESA was bought by Grupo Ortiz in response to the solid commitment the Group had set itself with regard to its invol-vement in the railway infrastructure sector, and to the diversifica-tion of the business of the Group.

At the outset they focused on their own region of Galicia but soon expanded from there with ever bigger contracts. Today they are present all over Spain and have worked on major projects in re-gions such as Andalusia, Castilla-León, the Basque country, Cata-lonia, Extremadura, etc. They have also submitted railway tenders in countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and Hungary.

COSFESA’s constant expansion in the technical field led ADIF’s (Spain’s Administrator of Railway Infrastructures) Standards Com-mittee of the Ministry of Public Works to award them the position of Qualified Contractor for the following subsectors:

OAAA Track maintenance with heavy machinery. OAAB Track maintenance with light machinery. OAEB Tunnel repair interventions. OAB Switch maintenance. OAFB Rehabilitation of pre-fabricated bridges and overhead bridges.

OAG Track infrastructure maintenance (Levelling y and trench maintenance).

OAH Levelling, including tunnel entrances, pedestrian under-passes, level crossings.

OACA Renovation and rehabilitation of tracks without ballast clearing.

Areas of workCOSFESA carries out all types of railway infrastructure work, classifying them into six main groups:

Renovation and maintenance of railway tracks. Consolidation of trenches, repair and improvement of shoulders and reconstruction of culverts.

Construction of artificial tunnels for railway lines. Reconstruction of tunnel surfaces and/or railway tunnel gables. Construction, maintenance and consolidation of overhead bridges. Construction, reinforcement, improvement and modernisation of bridges.

All this kind of work, whether public or private, requires very close collaboration with railway management as rail traffic cannot be interrupted. COSFESA is also qualified to work in the following areas and installation sectors:
