The Inernship Program kicked o wih a ve-hour orienaion providing a crash course on Radio One’s hisory and curren developmens and a discussion o wha is required o he inerns o survive and shine in he program.  “The goal o he Radio One Alana Inernship Program is o prepare he inerns o excel in any eld or indusry, no jus radio,” explained Inernship Coordinaor Rashidah Jenkins. This goal is refeced in he program’s srucure and requiremens—inerns roae o all deparmens, complee individual and group assignmens, atend meeings, and paricipae in saion evens and remoes—and i is reinorced by he Intern Guide writen by Jenkins. Jenkins ensures ha he inerns “learn all aspecs o radio and he imporance o balancing heir academic, personal, and proessional lives.” A ormer Radio One Alana inern hersel, Jenkins knows ha  he skills learned as a Radio One Alana inern are invaluable and will help hem beyond he inernship.” Reinorcing ha message is he required reading o Make It Happen: The Hip-Hop Generation Guide to Success by Kevin Liles, who rose rom inern o presiden o De Jam Records in nine years.
