Athletic Division: N/A League: N/A The principle of learning by practice underlies every major feature of a Bennington College education: the teacher-practitioner model of teaching; the requirement that students direct the course of their own education; the winter Field Work Term, which gives students work experience and connects them to the greater community. The College's commitment to learning across the disciplines extends to the faculty, who teach what is uppermost in their minds, exploring new pursuits as well as ongoing areas of study and work. Bennington is grounded in the conviction that as a college education develops students' professional capacities, it should also prepare them to be deeply thoughtful and actively engaged citizens of the world. What is RACC?

The Regional Admission Counselors of California (RACC) is an organization composed of 62 admission

professionals, from 50 institutions, who work with students and counselors throughout California. All of these out-of-state institutions are NACAC and/or WACAC members. They have dedicated the necessary resources for a regional office to serve California schools and provide information on educational opportunities out of state.

WHAT CAN RACC DO FOR YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS?

 Signature RACC Events:

o Considering College Out-of-State, Creating Options in Your College Search – A college fair that features a 30 minute presentation, brief presentations from participating colleges and a mini-fair.

“The RACC going out of state college fair was easy to set up and it had big impact with the nearly 300 attendees. It really

bolstered the students and parents’ confidence by making the college search process more personable. They met and interacted

with college reps who said, yeah, you can go to college and you have all kinds of options.” Maureen Roadman, Solutions

o Mini-Fairs: Day - Day time college fair visits during lunch and or free periods.

"The RACC mini fairs also require minimal set up but provide maximum benefit. The advantage that the RACC mini fairs have

provided to my students over the larger NACAC Fairs, is that they are able to have more meaningful conversations with the

representatives without feeling hurried and there are even some colleges present at the RACC mini fair that do not participate in

the larger fairs." Chris White, High Tech High “The RACC mini-fair is one of the events I look most forward to in the fall. It was a great way for our students to learn about

over 20 out of state schools all at one time. Seeing so many colleges at once really got my students motivated to explore options

they had never even considered before.” Myra Castro, Mater Dei High School

o RACC Case Studies Night – We will conduct a Case Studies night at your facilities

“The parents at my school loved the RACC Case Studies program. It helped clear up so many misconceptions about admissions, and working with the RACC representatives was easy and efficient. RACC representatives (also) work with my students each year on college interview techniques. Every year my students say it was one of the most valuable things they learned during the

college process. ” Nancy Caine, St. Augustine High School

 We are a Resource

Admission professionals in RACC are available to assist you and your students with any questions you may have about our respective institutions, admission process and standards.

 We Provide Speakers and Presenters

Many RACC members are available to speak or present on a variety of topics at college nights, summer camps, or to individual classes. Topics include:

Why Consider College Options Out-of-State, How to Write a College Essay, SAT/ACT General Info & Strategies, Choosing a Major, Financial Aid 101, Selecting a College, Private vs. Public, University Specific Programs, How to Get the Most Out of Tours, Interviewing, Selecting a Visual & Performing Arts College, Careers in the Arts, WUE, Why a Women's College and more.
