Discover MoreWexford is a lively town with winding streets, a lovely quay front, great shopping, an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Stroll around the town enjoying sites such as Selskar Abbey, St Iberius Church, the world-famous National Opera House, the Bull Ring with the statue of 1798 ‘’Pikeman’’, and the Twin Churches. Situated just 5km west is The Irish National Heritage Park, discover 9,000 years of Irish life as you meander through Ireland’s largest open-air museum. Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum and Gardens is a short 7km drive south, see the castle reflected in the shimmering waters of the lake or bring the kids to the wooded play area.

North of Wexford town, a 23km drive away is the quaint village of Enniscorthy. Situated on the river Slaney overlooked by Vinegar Hill, and home to the magnificent Enniscorthy Castle, National 1798 Rebellion Centre and St. Aidan’s Cathedral. Enniscorthy itself is famous for its Strawberry Fair Festival. A short drive east from here is where you can take a guided tour of Wells House, a 17th century stately home. Further north is Ferns, also known as ‘The Ancient Capital of Leinster’ which will bring you towards the thriving market town of Gorey. With plenty of olde world shops and restaurants is a great stop off for a bite to eat along your trip. To the west is Bunclody nestled at the foot of the stunning Blackstairs Mountains, check out the beautiful countryside views on the Prospect Loop walking trail, or take on the challenging Blackstairs Walk. The north coast from Wexford town offers a spectacular coastline to enjoy its many sandy beaches, from Curracloe just outside the town centre to Morriscastle and Courtown beaches further north.

South 16km from Wexford town is Rosslare, a beautiful seaside resort. Visit stunning Rosslare Strand, enjoy a scenic swim, or rent a kayak and paddle on the crystal-clear waters. Stroll along picturesque Rosslare Harbour and watch the colourful boats drift by. Further south from the harbour is Our Lady’s Island. A pre-Christian settlement and where a monastery was founded by St Abban in the 6th century. It has been a popular pilgrim destination since the 7th century. 23km south of Wexford town is Kilmore Quay, a small fishing village with quaint whitewashed cottages and thatched roofs. Stroll along the charming marina or take a 20-minute boat trip from Kilmore Harbour to the uninhabited Saltee Islands. The Saltee Islands are situated approximately 5km off the coast, Great Saltee is the most famous bird sanctuary in Ireland and is very popular with both day-trippers and birdwatchers.

Hook Peninsula Discover the natural beauty and tranquility of the unspoiled Hook Peninsula. On the 50km drive from Wexford town to Hook, call into the serene and beautiful Tintern Abbey or visit Ireland’s most famous haunted house, Loftus Hall. Further south the iconic Hook Lighthouse. Thought to be one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world. Take a guided tour of this unique lighthouse and take in the spectacular views from the balcony with miles of sea rolling out before you. A short drive from here is Duncannon where Duncannon Fort and Beach sit on a stretch of beautifully scenic coastline. Take a relaxing trip on the Passage East ferry from Ballyhack or head north to New Ross taking in the JF. Kennedy Arboretum, and the Kennedy Homestead, the ancestral home of US President J F. Kennedy. New Ross enjoys a scenic location on the banks of the River Barrow. Tour the Dunbrody Famine Ship, a world-famous experience and stroll along the pretty quayside to the Ros Tapestry.
