    BARC invites applications for Junior Research Fellows (JRFs), Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) and Research Associates (RAs) to be recruited under Plan Projects of BARC. Persons recruited under this scheme would get an opportunity to work on R&D programmes of national importance relevant to the mandate of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. The Fellows will carry out research under the guidance of senior scientists of the centre and will utilize the state-of-the-art instruments and laboratory facilities that are setup / being setup under plan projects of BARC. The candidates eligible for admission for Ph.D programme of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) can register with HBNI.

    The particulars under this scheme are given in the following:

    Sr. No Scheme Fellowship

    1. JRF : Rs. 12,000/- p.m. for 1st and 2nd year and Rs. 14,000/- p.m. for subsequent years + 30% HRA + Contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- per year.

    2. SRF : Rs. 14,000/- p.m. for 1st and 2nd year and Rs. 15,000/- p.m. for subsequent years + 30% HRA + Contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- per year.

    3. RA : Rs. 16,000/- p.m. + 30% HRA

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    A. Minimum Educational Qualification and Experience:

    For JRFs :

    BE/B Tech. - 1st Class (Disciplines : Chemical Engg., / Mechanical Engg. / Metallurgy / Computer Science / Computer Engg / Electronics / Instrumentation & Control Engg)

    or M.Sc - 1st Class

    (Disciplines : Physics / Chemistry / Electronics / Applied Physics / Biotechnology) or

    MCA - 1st Class For SRFs :

    M. Tech. (Disciplines: Chemical Engg., / Mechanical Engg. / Metallurgy / Computer Science / Computer Engg / Electronics / Instrumentation & Control Engg./ Polymer Technology / Food Technology / Biotechnology).

    or BE / B Tech with 2 years of relevant research experience

    (Disciplines : Chemical Engg., / Mechanical Engg. / Metallurgy / Computer Science / Computer Engg / Electronics / Instrumentation & Control Engg)

    or M.Sc - 1st Class with 2 years of relevant research experience

    (Disciplines : Physics / Chemistry / Electronics / Applied Physics / Biotechnology)

    For RAs :

  • Ph. D in Chemistry / Physics / Material Science (with research topic in condensed matter science / neutron or x-ray scattering / experimental high energy physics / astrophysics / nuclear physics / magnetism / computational chemistry / computational material science / computational physics / inorganic or organic or general chemistry )

    The research fellows depending on the discipline will be associated with in one of the following areas of research such as Lasers & Plasma systems, Accelerator based experiments, Detectors, neutron/x-ray scattering, high energy physics, astrophysics, beamline development and utilization, instrument development for accelerator safety, inorganic & organometallic chemistry, multi-ferroic materials, surface modified colloids, corrosion, diffusion studies & phase analysis, polymeric/ceramic membrane development, packaging material development, chemical process development, separation science, friction stir welding, NDE techniques, CAD/CAM software validation & verification, parallelization of scientific software, encryption & security management, computer simulation of shock wave propagation etc.

    B. Nationality/Age: Indian nationals with the following age limits are eligible to apply.

    Age Limit : As on 1st January 2009, the candidate should not exceed the following age criterion. with BE / B.Tech qualification - 26 years with MSc/MCA qualification - 28 years with M.Tech qualification - 28 years with Ph.D qualification - 30 years

    The age criterion is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates. The SC/ST /OBC certificate should be as per the standard format.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE / APPOINTMENT

    Applications will be screened and candidates found suitable will be called to appear for an interview in Mumbai. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interest and work experience has relevance to the mandate of DAE. Outstation candidates will be paid sleeper class (ordinary) train fare or actual fare, whichever is less. Candidates are advised to come prepared to stay in Mumbai for 2 to 3 days as a few short listed candidates will be asked to undergo a medical examination on the day following the interview. Final selection will be made from among the short listed candidates found medically fit. The selected candidates will be offered Fellowship at BARC for an initial period of up to 3 years which may be extendable by another 2 years based on performance and requirement in the Department. HOW TO APPLY

    a) The application should be preferably be typewritten on a plain paper as per the pro-forma given in the advertisement for only one of the subjects listed above. Multiple applications received would be rejected.

    b) Attach only photocopies of the following documents/ certificates duly attested by a Gazetted Officer/ Head of the Institute (Do not enclose original certificates).

    i) All degree certificates and mark sheets starting with the eligibility qualification. iii) Proof of date of birth e.g. CBSE/ HSC/ SSC/ Matriculation certificate. iv) SC/ ST/ OBC certificate, if applicable, as per the prescribed format.

    c) Enclose a self addressed envelope (size 5x7) with complete addresses including PIN code.

    d) Affix one passport size photograph on the top right corner of the application and enclose one spare photograph inside the envelope indicated at c above. Append your signatures across both the photographs.

  • e) Postal Order/Demand Draft of Rs.100/- as application fee drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, BARC payable at Mumbai. SC/ST candidates are exempted from application fee.

    f) Persons working under the Central/ State Government/ Public Sector Undertakings should submit their application through proper channel.

Give title of thesis, specific area of discipline, 5-key words that describe your research work and a brief description of the research work done for Ph.D. (max. 500 words) or for the project work done for Masters in Engineering (max. 250 words) and the R&D work done after Masters (max. 250 words). For candidates who have not done project work during masters, only research work experience details may be given.
