1. Overview
This document introduces how to manage PDC760 through Smart MDM (Mobile Device Management), including
programming, feature configuration, application management, key management, paid feature license etc.
Meanwhile, this document introduces how to manage PDC760 through Smart MDM Lite, and troubleshoot the
common problems.

2.1 Smart MDM
2.1.1 Preparations
Items Description
Smart MDM
Professional
Installation Package
Please contact the dealer to obtain the installation package in V2.0.09.000.
System License
(Optional)
Please contact the dealer to obtain the system license, which is used to assign the
quantity of devices controlled by Smart MDM.
Note:
You have 30 days free trial to use Smart MDM Professional, during which you can manage
maximum 2 Admin Clients, 50 Multi-mode Advanced radios, and all other devices. If you
need to manage more devices or trial period expires, you can import the system license.
Server Connect Mode,
Address and Port
Please contact server administrator to obtain the server connect mode, IP and port.
Note:
The server connection mode includes safe mode and common mode. The safe mode means
that data is transferred between the server and network elements with https protocol, which is
more secure compared with the common mode.
Radio File Please contact the dealer to obtain the file (.dev or .zip format) including the radio
information.
Programming Cable
(Optional)
Please contact the dealer to obtain the PC93 programming cable when connecting
the radio to Smart MDM Professional via wired mode.
2.1.2 Software Installation
Refer to Smart MDM_Installation and Configuration Guide to finish the installation and configuration of Smart
MDM.

2.1.3 Asset Preparations
Use the super administrator (admin) to log in Smart MDM Admin Client to prepare the assets.
2.1.3.1 Log in to Smart MDM Admin Client
Step 1 Start Smart MDM Admin Client and click on bottom right of the login window.
Step 2 Choose the connect mode of Smart MDM server, enter the server address and port, then click OK.
If the server is in safe mode, check Safe Mode and install the CA certificate. For details, refer to Smart
MDM Professional_Installation and Configuration Guide.

Step 3 Enter the account admin and the default password 111111, and click Login.
2.1.3.2 Import System License (Optional)
You have a 30-day free trial to use Smart MDM Professional, during which you can manage maximum 2 Admin
Clients, 50 Multi-mode Advanced radios, and all other devices. If you need to manage more devices or trial period
expires, you can import the system license.

Step 2 Click Import System License to import the license.
2.1.3.3 Add Administrator
Step 1 Add role.
The role is used to set the permissions of administrator.
1. Choose Asset -> Role.
2. Click New to configure the role information.
3. Click OK.

Step 2 Add administrator account.
1. Choose Asset -> Administrator.
2. Click New to configure the administrator information.
3. Click OK.
The default password of administrator is 111111.
2.1.3.4 Add Admin Station
Administrator can use Admin Client on the current PC only after the PC is added as the admin station.
You can add admin station with the following two methods:

Method 1: the super administrator directly adds the admin station when the administrator of Admin Client
provides machine code.
Method 2: the administrator requests registration to the super administrator for approval.
Here are the details:
Method 1:
Step 1 Use the account of super administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 2 Choose Asset -> Admin Station.
Step 3 Click New to configure the admin station information.
Step 4 Click OK.
Method 2:
Step 1 Request the registration of admin station.

2.1.3.5 Add IDS Station
Administrator can use IDS (Integrated Device Station) on the current PC only after the PC is added as the IDS
station.

You can add IDS station with the following two methods:
Method 1: the super administrator directly adds the IDS station when the administrator of IDS provides
machine code.
Method 2: the administrator requests registration to the super administrator for approval.
Here are the details:
Method 1:
Step 1 Use the account of super administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 2 Choose Asset -> IDS.
Step 3 Click New to configure the IDS station information.
Step 4 Click OK.
Method 2:

2. Enter the user name and password and click Login, or log into IDS with fingerprint.
3. Click on top right, and then click in the popped window.
4. Enter the server address and port, and choose the connect mode of the server, and click Register.
If the server is in safe mode, check Safe Mode and install the CA certificate. For details, refer to
Smart MDM Professional_Installation and Configuration Guide.
5. Enter Name and Contact, and click OK.
Step 2 Use the account of super administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 3 Choose Asset -> IDS.

Step 5 Check and configure the IDS station information and click OK.
2.1.3.6 Import Radio
Step 1 Choose Asset -> Device -> Multi-mode.
Step 2 Click Import.

Step 3 Click Browse, and choose a radio file in .dev or zip format.
Step 4 Click Open.
The radio information in the file is listed as below.
Step 5 Choose the group.
The administrator can only manage the radios in the current group or subgroup, so the radio must be in
the group or subgroup of the administrator.
Step 6 Click Import.
Step 7 Click OK.

2.2 Connect Radio
You can connect the radio to Smart MDM with the following two modes:
Wireless Mode: connect the radio to Smart MDM over WLAN or LTE.
Wired Mode: connect the radio to IDS with the programming cable.
Wireless Mode
Step 1 Turn on WLAN or LTE network of the radio.
Note
If Smart MDM server is set in LAN, please ensure the radio and Smart MDM server work in the
same LAN.
Step 2 Choose Settings -> General -> Hytera account on the radio.
Step 3 Set HTTP address to Smart MDM server IP: port.
Step 4 View the connection status of the radio in Hytera account.
The radio has been connected to Smart MDM successfully if the Connection shows Online.
Wired Mode
Step 1 (Optional) Connect the IDS to Smart MDM server.
Ignore this step if the IDS has been connected to Smart MDM server.
1. Start IDS, click on top right to access the Login window.
2. Enter the user name and password and click Login, or log into IDS with fingerprint.
3. Click on top right, and then click in the popped window.
4. Enter the server address and port, and choose the connect mode of the server, and click OK.

Step 2 Connect the radio to IDS with the programming cable.
Step 3 Use the account of administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 4 Choose Multi-mode -> Device to view the connection status.
The radio has been connected to Smart MDM successfully if the Wired shows .

3. Radio Programming
3.1 Log in to Smart MDM Admin Client
Step 1 Start Smart MDM Admin Client.
Step 2 Enter the account and the password of administrator, and click Login.
3.2 New Template
There are three methods to create a template.
New Template: create a new template directly.
Read Radio: read the radio and create a template based on its configuration file.
Import an Existing Template: create a template based on the existing template.
This section takes the method Read Radio as an example. For other methods, refer to Smart MDM Admin Client
User Guide.
Step 1 Choose Multi-mode -> Programming.

Step 2 Click Read.
Step 3 Choose Wireless Mode or Wired Mode according to the connection mode between the radio and Smart
MDM.
Step 4 Select the radio and click Read.
Note
If it is required to update the plugin, see 8.2.2 for solution.
Step 5 Click Next.
Step 6 Choose Broadband and Narrowband parameters and click OK.

Step 7 Configure public parameters and click Next.
Note
For radio configuration, see 4 Feature Configuration. Click to view the parameter
description.
Step 8 (Optional) Configure custom parameters.
For batch programming, you need to configure the custom parameters. Otherwise, ignore this step.

1. Choose the method to configure custom parameters.
Edit Custom Parameters: click Edit and choose radios, then click Next.
Import an Existing Custom Parameter File (.csv format): click Import and click Browse to
import the custom parameter file, then choose radios and click Next.
2. Click and configure the parameters, then click OK.
Step 9 Click Next.
Step 10 Enter the template name and click OK.

3.3 Programming
Ensure the radio has been connected to Smart MDM during programming.
Step 1 In Programming page, choose a template and click .
Step 2 Choose the communication type and click Next.
Wireless Mode: the radio connects to Smart MDM via WLAN or LTE.
Wired Mode: the data is transmitted through User Client. The radio connects to IDS via
programming cable.
For wired mode, you need to choose the connected IDS.

Step 3 Choose a radio and click Next.
Step 4 Set the task information and click Next.
The task is automatically executed. Notifications will be sent to the radio if Notification is checked.
This step takes Auto + Notification as an example.

Step 5 Confirm the task parameters, resource and radio information.
Step 6 Click OK.
The radio receives the notification and starts programming at the preset start time. It shows
“Programming…”, and then automatically restarts after programming.

3.4 Check the Programming Result
Step 1 Choose Multi-mode -> Task.
Step 2 Choose the task and click to check the execution status.

4. Feature Configuration
You can configure radio features through the template of Smart MDM.
This chapter introduces the configuration path of radio features. For template creating and radio programming, see
3 Radio Programming.
4.1 Broadband
4.1.1 APN
The radio can connect to different networks, such as Internet, WAP network, enterprise internal network and
industry specific network. The APN determines the network that the radio is connected to. You can define the
APN range through the APN list of the radio to ensure the security.
You can configure the APN of the radio in two ways: Configure through Programming and Configure through
Radio Menu.
4.1.1.1 Configure through Programming
Ensure that you’ve got the APN information from the owner of the APN server.
1. Path: Broadband -> APN List
Refer to the APN information to edit the APN parameters. Ensure Name, APN Name, MCC, MNC, APN
Type, and APN are correctly configured.
2. Choose Broadband -> Wireless and Network.

See the table below to configure the parameters.

APN Operation Choose Overwrite to write the APN set by Selected APN into the
radio.
Selected APN
Choose an APN added in 1, if Selected APN is set to 1, the first APN
data in APN List will be written into the radio.
Note:
The radio will select the predefined APN in the SIM card if Selected
APN is set to 0 or a number greater than that in the APN List.
4.1.1.2 Configure through Radio Menu
Prerequisite
You’ve got the APN information from the owner of the APN server.
The APN of the radio has been enabled via Smart MDM. The path is as below.
Choose Broadband -> Wireless and Network, and set APN Configuration Restricted to Off.
Choose Broadband -> Menu Control, and set APN to Visible.
Steps
Step 1 Select Setting -> Mobile Network -> Network -> Access Point Name (APN) on the radio.
Step 2 Tap to choose an APN or tap to add an APN.

Step 3 Refer to the APN information to edit the APN parameters.
Ensure Name, APN Name, MCC, MNC, APN Type, and APN are correctly configured.
4.2 Conventional Mode

Please configure Dialing Rule before Radio ID.

The radio only receives the calls from the groups in RX Group List.

4.2.2.3 Digital Channel
The RX frequency, TX frequency, color code and time slot of the calling party and called party must be the same.
In direct mode, RX frequency must be the same as TX frequency. While in repeater mode, RX frequency of the
radio must be the same as TX frequency of the repeater, and TX frequency of the radio is the same as RX
frequency of the repeater.

4.2.3 Mobility Management
4.2.3.1 Scan
This feature is used for the radio to participate in the calls on other channels. With it enabled, the radio detects the
preset channels and stays one channel to receive the call. The radio can scan both digital and analog channels.

You can configure the scan feature in two ways: Configure through Programming and Configure through Radio
Menu.
Configure through Programming
Please ensure that digital channels and analog channels are added for scan.
Step 1 Choose Conventional -> General Setting -> Basic, and set Scan to On.
Step 2 Configure the scan list.
1. Choose Conventional -> Service -> Scan, and click Add to add a channel to the scan list.
At least two channels are added to the Scan List, or the feature will be unavailable.
2. Set CTCSS/CDCSS Scan Mode as Priority and Non-Priority Channel.
3. Configure Scan TX Mode.
The radio may need to transmit services during the scan, but the stayed channel, selected channel,

last stayed channel and frequently used channel are different. Thus, you need to designate a
transmitting channel for the radio.
4. (Optional) Set Designated Channel Type to Digital or Analog accordingly.
This parameter is available only when Scan TX Mode is set to Designated Channel.
5. Set Talkback to On.
Step 3 Set scan list for channel.
A scan list must be set for each channel.
1. Choose Conventional -> Zone and Channel -> Digital Channel (or Analog Channel).
2. Double click the channel to access Edit Parameter window.
3. Set Use Scan List/Roam List to Scan List.
4. Set Scan List/Roam List.

Step 1 Tap Contact on the homepage of the radio.
Step 2 Tap Manage.
Step 3 Tap the channel.

Step 6 Tap to choose a scan list, and then tap the scan list to edit it.
Step 7 Tap to add a channel.
Step 8 Return to the channel page, and tap Save.

Step 9 Choose Settings -> PMR, and enable the Scan feature.
4.2.3.2 Roaming
Roaming enables communication between radios at any base station on one IP network.
Path:
1. Conventional -> General Settings -> Basic -> Service -> Roaming

This value is subject to the Beacon Interval setting of the repeater. Roaming application in IP
network will be affected by this parameter, thus, please contact Hytera for configuration guide if in
need.

The RX Frequency and TX Frequency must be different. Otherwise, other roaming parameters
cannot be configured.

4.2.4 Voice Service
4.2.4.1 Private Call
To initiate private call, the Initiate Private Call must be set to Allow.

To initiate group call, the Initiate Group Call must be set to Allow.

To initiate all call, the Initiate All Call must be set to Allow.
Path: Common -> PMR Setting -> Call Permission -> Initiate All Call
4.2.4.4 Digital Emergency
To use the feature, you should configure the following parameters and set the emergency key.
Path:
1. Conventional -> Service -> Digital Emergency -> Emergency Setting -> Emergency Type
2. Conventional -> Service -> Digital Emergency -> Call to Follw -> Call to Follw
Note
The Emergency Type must be set to Regular.
The Group Call Call ID is the target ID of the emergency call.
Select the channel for emergency call in Revert Channel.
When Call To Follow is enabled, the radio automatically transmits voice in emergency call without
PTT press.

4.2.6.1 E2EE
E2EE is a feature that ensures data or voice is transferred securely between radios. After encrypted, the voice and
data can be decrypted only by the radio with the same key list. E2EE ensures transmission security, and prevents
call eavesdropping and data interception. E2EE is a paid feature.
The radio supports Software Encryption and Hardware Encryption.
Software Encryption: This encryption utilizes Hytera-defined or DMR standard algorithm to encrypt voice and
data, which is more cost-effective than hardware encryption. Both Hytera E2EE and DMRA E2EE are
available to DMR radio, and Hytera E2EE is available to PDT radio.
Hardware Encryption: This encryption utilizes the encryption card storing the customized encryption key and
algorithm to realize E2EE. This feature is available for PDT radios only.
Software Encryption
To use this feature, you need to complete the following configurations.

4.2.6.2 Over the Air Encryption
Over the Air Encryption protects the data and communication from being monitored by illegal users.
At present Over the Air Encryption is only applicable to signaling transmitted over the air interface. Over the Air
Encryption and E2EE are different but they do not influent each other. You can choose the encryption
accordingly.
To use Over the Air Encryption, the following must be done:
Configure Over the Air Encryption via Smart MDM.
Configure and import the encryption key via Smart MDM and KMC (Key Management Center).
The following is the configuration of Over the Air Encryption, as for the configuration and import of the key,

The alarm is triggered as following:
Step 1 When the tilt (the angle is bigger than the Trig Tilt Gradient) or static time equals the difference value
between Trig Entry Delay Time and Pre-Alert Time, the radio gives alert tone to remind the user of
the alarm.
Step 2 When the Pre-alert Time is out, the radio raises the alarm.
To stop the alarm, the user needs to put the radio right or move the radio longer than the Trig Exit
Delay Time.

Authentication allows the trunking radio and system to authenticate each other using the agreed encryption
algorithm. During authentication, the trunking system can authenticate the validity of the radios; or the trunking
radios can authenticate the validity of the trunking system; or they can authenticate each other.
The radio supports two authentication mechanisms.
Software Authentication is realized through software. The key is configured by KMC and pushed by Smart
MDM to the radio.
Hardware Authentication (for PDT radios only) is realized through encryption card storing authentication key
and algorithm, and only available for PDT radios.

5. Application Management
5.1 Overview
The App installation and uninstallation can be controlled by Smart MDM or the App white/black list, providing a
security mechanism to manage radio apps.
The following methods can be used to install/uninstall app:
Administrator remotely installs/uninstalls app by Smart MDM
Smart MDM provides multiple methods to install app. One is to push an installation notification to the radio,
and then the radio user manually installs app in App Store. The other is to push app installation to radio, and
then the radio automatically installs app without user’s operation.
Smart MDM can uninstall app without impacting the radio service.
User installs/uninstalls app on Radio
Radio user downloads and installs app by App Store or Browser and uninstalls app by App Store, App Center
or App manager.
The white and black list can be used to control app installation and uninstallation, and the mode is different in
different scene.

Step 2 Use the account of administrator to log in to Admin Client.

The administrator can push the released app to radio. Radio user can view and install the released app

Before using the Authentication, AIE or E2EE feature, you need to configure the key and write it into the radio
via KMC and Smart MDM.
The operation flow is as follows:
6.2 Preparations
The radio is connected to Smart MDM via WLAN or LTE.
You’ve got the installation package of KMC V1.5.05.000 from the dealer.
You’ve got the radio file (.zip format) including all radio information from the dealer.
6.3 Generate Key Application Form
Step 1 Start Smart MDM Admin Client.
Step 2 Use the account of administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 3 Choose Multi-mode -> Key.
Step 4 Click Apply for Key.

Step 5 Set the radio type to TETRA, and choose the key type.
Step 6 Choose a radio and click .
Step 7 Click OK.
The Admin Client shows “Generating succeeded”.

Step 8 Click Download to save the application form to the PC.
Please send the application form to the administrator of KMC to generate the key pack.
Step 9 Click Close.
6.4 Add Keys
Only the administrator of the KMC can add a key.
Step 1 Start KMC.
Step 2 Set the radio type to DMR, enter user name and password in the log in page, and then click Login.
Step 3 Add the keys in the configuration page.

Choose the key type to enter the corresponding configuration page. For details, refer to KMC
Operation Guide.

6.5 Generate Key Pack
You can generate key pack with the following three methods.
Method 1 (by administrator): associate the key application form to generate both the key file pack and key
pack.
Method 2 (by administrator): create key file pack and then use the key application form to generate key pack.
Method 3 (by administrator or Users): import the existing key file pack and then use the key application form
to generate key pack.
This section takes the method 1 as an example. For other methods, refer to KMC Operation Guide.
Step 1 Start KMC.
Step 2 Set the radio type to TETRA, enter user name and password in the log in page, and then click Login.

Step 3 Click Import Radio File, choose a radio file and click Open.
KMC shows “Importing succeeded”.
Step 4 Click New.
Step 5 Enter the name of key file pack.
Step 6 Choose the key application form generated in 6.3 and check Application Form.

Step 7 (Optional) Choose the K File Type.
For authentication keys, you need to set K File Type to TEI-K or KOnly. For SCK and E2EE, this step
can be ignored.
Step 8 Choose the key file from the drop down list.
Step 9 Click Create Key Pack, choose the save path and click OK in the popped dialogue box.
KMC generates the key packs according to the key type and saves them in the specified path in .key
format.
Please send all key packs to the administrator of Smart MDM to push the keys.
6.6 Upload and Push Key
Step 1 Use the account of administrator to log in to Admin Client.
Step 2 Choose Multi-mode -> Key.

Step 4 Click Browse, choose the key pack generated in 6.5 and click Open.

Step 7 Confirm the communication type and click Next.
Wireless Mode: the radio connects to Smart MDM via WLAN or LTE.
Wired Mode: the data is transmitted through IDS. The radio connects to Smart MDM (IDS) via
programming cable.
For wired mode, you need to choose the connected IDS.
Step 8 Choose a radio and click Next.

Configure the task accordingly. The task is automatically executed. Notifications will be sent to the
radio if Notification is checked.
Step 10 Confirm the task parameters, resource and radio information.

6.7 Check the Push Result

7. Paid Feature License
PDC7 series also supports some paid features including E2EE (End to End Encryption), TTS (Talk to Speech) and
Priority Interrupt. Please apply for and import the license through Smart MDM to enable the needed features.
Step 1 Apply for the license.
You need to provide the authorization information to Hytera, including the serial number and model
name of the radio and the paid feature.
Step 2 Use the account of administrator to log in to the Smart MDM Admin Client.
Step 3 Upload the license.
1. Choose Multi-mode -> License.

There are four methods to program a radio.
By a New Template: create a new template and program the radio.
By Reading Radio: read the radio and create a template based on its configuration file, then program the radio.
By Importing an Existing Template: create a template based on the existing template and program the radio.
By Quick Programming: import an existing template and program the radio without entering parameter
configuration page. This method improves the programming efficiency.
This section takes the method By Reading Radio as an example. For other methods, refer to Smart MDM Lite
