The Civic Type R is anything but subtle. Its muscular styling and aggressive physique are not for shrinking violets. Every inch of its track-tested aerodynamic package is designed to deliver superior balance between downforce and drag, contributing to greater speed and stability.

The weight-saving aluminium bonnet is sculpted to cut through the air. Larger grille openings maximise airflow to the engine. The front bumper is shaped to inhibit air turbulence around the front wheels. While a front air curtain, wide front splitter and deep side skirts manage airflow and create downforce on the front axle.

Behind the front wheels you’ll find 2-piece disc brakes that prevent fade during hard braking. There are also air slats in the bodywork behind the wheels that reduce static pressure within the wheel arches and improve the lift coefficient. So when you hit the track, you can corner with confidence and precision.

At the rear, the signature Type R wing works in conjunction with vortex generator fins on the roof line, diverting air flow over and away from the rear of the car to reduce the overall drag coefficient. There are even cutting-edge ADS dampers that read the road faster and respond quicker, so even the most thrilling ride will be a comfortable one.

Its interior is unmistakably Type R. Signature suede-effect red and black fabric high-backed bucket seats offer unparalleled support for sports driving – keeping the driver and front passenger firmly in place through acceleration and cornering.

The Alcantara®-wrapped steering wheel with red inserts and hexagonal stitching give you the grip you need while the dashboard’s carbon fibre effect panelling and race red highlights provide a distinctly sporty feel. Complementing this are the Type R’s iconic drilled alloy sports pedals, suede-booted aluminium shift knob and custom serial number embossed on the centre console.

At the top of the centre console you’ll find a brilliant seven-inch touchscreen display. Featuring Apple CarPlay®+ and Android Auto™‡, it lets you connect seamlessly to maps, music message and more. It’s also home to your climate control functions as well as a reversing camera and LaneWatch that give you a bigger picture of everything around you.

LogR*, our proprietary data logging app, can be accessed via that very same touchscreen. It’s designed to improve your driving performance by tracking, scoring and monitoring every trip you take around the track.

In front of the driver, the instrument display layout provides vivid clarity and highly intuitive useability. A seven-inch colour TFT LCD Driver Information Interface (DII) display makes up the largest central section of the instrument binnacle, which includes virtual gauges as well as a switchable section that can display a variety of different function readouts including an LED gearshift indicator light, boost pressure gauge, G-Meter and lap time recorder.

And if that wasn’t enough to get your blood pumping, the Active Sound Control (ASC) will. Featuring different setting for the Type R’s Sport, +R and Comfort driving modes, it works through the audio system’s speakers to enhance the acceleration sound and dial up your Type R driving experience.

400NmThe guttural and highly tuned 2.0 litre VTEC turbo engine responds instantly to your command with an adrenaline pumping 228kW of power with 400Nm torque delivered between 2500-4500rpm.

With a tested top speed of 272km per hour*, it's amongst the quickest cars in its class.

A scalpel sharp, 6-speed manual transmission with rev matching function which enables engine speed to be aligned with the main shaft speed during upshifts or downshifts, provides for an intimate and rewarding connection for the driver.

Final drive is transmitted through an exceptionally responsive Helical Limited Slip Differential (LSD) which aids track cornering traction, even during hard driving for a more dynamic driving experience.

The Type R delivers a thrilling balance of raw power and clever control. Depending on the road and track conditions, you can choose from an enhanced selection of driving modes including Comfort, Sport and +R mode. Each one automatically adjusts the suspension dampers, steering force, gearshift feeling and throttle response to suit any situation.

COMFORT MODEComfort mode offers a softer suspension setup and smoother steering feel, for a more comfortable daily drive.

SPORT MODESport mode offers a more dynamic response to your drive. It sharpens the throttle response, stiffens the suspension and increases steering sensitivity – providing an optimum vehicle set up for driving on the open road.

+R MODE+R mode is the choice for track driving. Engine responsiveness is heightened with the torque-mapping changed to a more aggressive and performance-focused configuration. This allows for more available torque at lower engine speeds. Damping force is increased by 15% over Sport mode to produce a firmer, flatter ride with greater agility for high-performance handling. The Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) system is also retuned for +R mode to focus on acceleration and performance, allowing a greater yaw and slip rate before intervening.
