Introduction:

Reading and Math Club is a community based intervention of Basic Education aim is to acquire reading and

math skill of grad one and two standard. The immediate outcome of the intervention is, the club children will

achieve Bangla language skill e.g. alphabets, sounds, phonetics, reading skill, creativity and understand as well

as general math skill and geometry shapes i.e. Numbers, additions and subtracts, triangle, square, rectangle etc.

Under Integrated Child Development Program- Shishuder Jonno, in Gangni sub district of Meherpur district.

There are 102 R & M clubs where 1847 children are being enrolled. A trained club volunteer leads the clubs

within set design and module. Every week, the camps sit 4 days. The club activity is implemented by close

monitoring and supervision by appointed Field Facilitation officer. The camps have strategic point is that it

would be sit in a natural environment in a view to the learning outcome will be illustrated by natural resources.

The camps remain decorated with learning materials and logistics.

Objectives of the Monitoring

On June 21, 2016, an arrangement of random monitoring operation was conducted by SJ team that model was

designed by Deputy Manager- Basic Education of Save the Children, Meherpur. The focus of the crash

community engagement while the SJ program expects a sustainable stability.

Process of the Monitoring:

The monitoring has a tool with 29 indicators. The indicators are as such quality benchmark. It had a 24

member’s team. Each of them visited one club with the check list as stander tool.

Section of Sampling

It has 24 sample out of 102 clubs of Gangni sub district. The sample covers each unions of Gangni. The clubs

were randomly selected unions by clubs by FF.

Category of visitor

All level of employee of SJ program were in the team of visitor. Deputy Manager-BE to Field Facilitator. The

Grading of the Camps

The individual score of clubs which is 1-4 scale basis, i.e. 90-100%=4 is “A”, 85-89%=3 is “B”, 80-84%=2 is

“C” and below 79% =1 is “D” grad. The status is calculated mathematically average of the scores of the

indicators.

Major Findings-

After passing 6 months of the program, there are only 13% grad “A” club out of 24 samples. And 79% of “B”

grad club. The result shows immediate strategic operational plan should be developed in order to having a

quality focused and sustainability focused program.

Recommendation-

1. Tool- The tool was very new and un familiar to the visitor

2. Indicator- The indicator and its definition was verbose.

3. Pre-Planed- Such an operation or mission needs solid and boost preparation

4. Time consumption- The visitor got very few time to monitor the program this is why the result has

a chance to arise loyal question

5. Completeness- On the visiting day all preparation was taken by the face to move in field, this is why

the time went a hand covering distance, it was really difficult to complete and fulfillment of the

mission.

6. Knowledge Level- In a view, it was a high thought mission, it required stander knowledge level

personnel.

7. Documentation- There was not specific guidance to generate the report. This is why the document

will face many criticism.

Conclusion

This is a document to show indicator based improvement status of Reading and Math Clubs. Few indicators

are below in measuring scale of 4. That says Basic Education tem should take strategic plan to overcome the

situation. The document also will be an evidence of excellent team work out put for Shishuder Jonno Program.
