Preface

e begin with Allah’s blessed name. We praise and glorify Him as He ought to be

praised and glorified. And we pray for peace and for blessings on all His noble Prophets and

Messengers, and in particular on the last of them all, the blessed Prophet Muhammad

This book is a collection of over 100 supplications (DU’AAS) from the Qur’an. I’ve used

DU’AAS from only Qur’an as it is the best source to receive glad tiding from Allah and

tilawat - recitation of Qur’an is a wonderful form of worship.

In today’s fast paced world, one tends to get carried away with his daily routine. The

onslaught of materialism has driven many of us away from the real Islam. One of the

compelling reasons for writing this book is that I find the youth today tends to give up easily.

The ‘Jeans Jamaat’ has lost its Islam somewhere in ‘Facebook’ and ‘Youtube’. They live under

the notion that the solution to all the problems is available on ‘Google’. Thus, whenever they

are plagued with depression, stress, anxiety, debt and so on, they would not turn to Qur’an

for help irrespective of the fact that umpteen solutions are available in it. I’ve tried to cover a

general perspective with respect to the problems and any criticism and correction is welcome.

The Power of Dua

ua is one of the finest forms of Ibadah. What might appear impossible to us is a piece of

cake for Allah. The below mentioned example and verse in the Qur’an is a corroboration

of this statement:

Once, a ten-year-old boy was praying feverishly in prostration, “O Allah, the Most Merciful, the

Magnificent, Make Aligarh (a small city in India) the capital of India…”

His mother overheard him and asked, “Why would you pray so, my son?” The boy answered,

“Well, Mama, we had a question in our final exam which asked, 'What is the capital of India?'

and I mistakenly put 'Aligarh' as my answer!"

Although we can laugh at the innocence of a child, his trust in his supplication to Allah and his

belief (Aqeedah) that his prayer will be heard is admirable; as a matter of fact, it is ideal. We

also should have that kind of trust, that Allah can do anything and only if we turn to Him our

pain will be neutralised and our problems will be resolved.

◌ وٱلله على كل شيء قدير

Wa Allāhu `Alaá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun

Allah has power over all things. (Al-Imran, 3:29)

If Allah wants to get anything done, his command is ‘Kun-faya- Kun’- ‘Be and it is’.

D

Page 8: Quranic Duas

8

Thus, one must keep Faith, Hope and Patience in a bid for fulfillment of any supplication.

However, one must not make irrational and haram supplications.

Examples:

There is no dua to change your Musalla - Prayer Mat into Aladdin’s flying carpet.

There is no dua to get your childhood love back in your life.

Specially, the youth who relinquish to their problems should struggle and learn to persevere. I

once read a case where a young guy wrote on the internet:

Is there any 'dua' for maut (death) instead of attempting a suicide which I don't want to do as

Allah doesn't like it? There is a matter of 'izat' or character - so I want a natural death to save

me from tortured life.

Please let me know can I pray for my death? Is it allowed in Islam in order not to do a suicide

attempt?

Suicide is forbidden in Islam. Thus, it is in your best interest to refrain from making such

ludicrous supplications.

Conditions for Acceptance of Dua

1. Abstain from committing Shirk (Polytheism). Thus, you are not permitted to ask from any

other god but Allah. This also does not leave any scope for horoscope, superstition,

blaming destiny, good fortune or ill fortune etc.

2. It is important to be sincere when making a dua. Make sure what you ask is not merely

from tongue, but you also desire from heart.

3. Also, one's food, drink, clothes and lifestyle should be Halal. One should avoid unlawful,

impious or forbidden sources or means of livelihood.

4. One must establish regular prayer and charity.

5. One must not give up on making dua if there is a delay in acceptance of dua or Allah

does not fulfill your dua. Below are the reasons which Allah states in the Qur’an:

It is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which

is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not. (Al-Baqarah, 2:216)

And "If Allah findeth any good in your hearts, He will give you something better than

what has been taken from you, and He will forgive you: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most

Merciful." (Al-Anfal, 8:70)

6. It is imperative to make a dua to Allah even if you have no need. You can always make a

dua for someone. If you don’t have a need, you should create one because:

Page 10: Quranic Duas

10

“When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close [to them]: I listen to the

prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My

call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.” (Al-Baqarah, 2:186)

7. Before and after making dua, send blessing on our beloved Prophet Muhammad

(sallalahu ‘alaihi wa sallam ) by reciting Durood.

8. It is important to adhere to above guidelines, "Because Allah will never change the grace

which He hath bestowed on a people until they change what is in their [own] souls

(hearts): and verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth [all things]." (Al-Anfal, 8:53

& Al-Ra’d 13:11)

4. Prophet Yunus/Jonah (‘alaihim al- Salām)

This is a very powerful dua to ease any difficulty. This dua was recited when he was

engulfed by the fish. He stayed in the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights.

In fact, Allah goes on to say that had he not recited this dua and asked for forgiveness

then the Fish would have become his grave.

Had it not been that he [repented and] glorified Allah, He would certainly have remained

inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. (Al-Saffat, 37:143, 144)

"O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul! Do Thou then forgive me!" "O my Lord!

For that Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace on me, never shall I be a help to those who

sin!"(Al-Qasas, 28:16,17)

6. Prophet Isa/Jesus (‘alaihim al- Salām)

Becoming Parents/Getting Pregnant

Whenever the Doctor says, ‘You can never be Parents’. Then, do not purchase the Doctor’s

explanation.

Rahil (Rachel) wife of Prophet Yaqoob( Jacob) (‘alaihim al- Salām) was unable to become a

mother for a long time. However, Allah opened her womb and she was blessed with Prophet

Yusuf (Joseph) (‘alaihim al- Salām) and Prophet Ben-ya-meen (Benjamin) (‘alaihim al- Salām)

Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) (‘alaihim al- Salām) was 100 years old while his wife Sarah was no

less than 90 year old when they were blessed with Prophet Isaac (‘alaihim al- Salām)

Prophet Dawood (David) (‘alaihim al- Salām) was also not able to become a father. However, he

fasted and Allah blessed him with many children.

The mother of all miracles is when Allah blessed Virgin Maryam (Mary) with Prophet Isa

(Jesus) (‘alaihim al- Salām) when no man had ever touched her.

There are times when couples who have been deemed “hopelessly infertile” do conceive children

unexpectedly. That is truly a miracle, and it does happen. I personally knew a couple where the

man had testicular cancer and after his radiation treatment he was” shooting blanks”, and was

told he could never produce a viable sperm again. On top of that, his wife struggled with PCOS.

They weren’t even trying anymore, and they got pregnant and were blessed with a child.

Page 22: Quranic Duas

22

He creates what He wills [and plans]. He bestows [children] male or female according to His

Will [and Plan],Or He bestows both males and females, and He leaves barren whom He will: for

He is full of Knowledge and Power.(Al-Shuara, 42-49,50)

Thus, do not despair of Allah’s mercy. The below mentioned du’aas were recited by Prophet

Zakariya (‘alaihim al- Salām). After which he was blessed with Prophet Yahya (John The Baptist)

(‘alaihim al- Salām).

ر ٱلوارثين رب ال تذرنى فـردا وأنت خيـ

"O my Lord! Grant unto me from Thee a progeny that is pure: for Thou art He that heareth

Prayer!” (Al-Imran, 3:38)

The below mentioned dua was recited by Prophet Ibrahim (‘alaihim al- Salām).

Page 23: Quranic Duas

Rabbi Hab Lī Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna.

"O my Lord! Grant me a righteous [son]!"(Al-Saffat, 37-100)

Already Pregnant/Expecting a child

The below mentioned dua was recited by Grandmother of Prophet Isa (‘alaihim al- Salām).

Hannah, when She was pregnant with Virgin Maryam. This dua should be recited when going in

the labour.

رب إنى نذرت لك ما فى بطنى محررا فـتـقبل منى إنك أنت ٱلسميع ٱلعليم

Rabbi 'Innī Nadhartu Laka Mā Fī Baţnī Muĥarrarāan Fataqabbal Minnī 'Innaka 'Anta As-Samī`u

Al-`Al īmu.

"O my Lord! I do dedicate unto Thee what is in my womb for Thy special service: So accept this

of me: For Thou hearest and knowest all things." (Al-Imran, 3:35)

I strongly recommend reciting Surah Maryam, Chapter 19 from the Qur’an during pregnancy

period and eating fresh khajoor – dates to shower the blessings of Allah on the mother and the

unborn child.

world.

Strengthening Iman (Faith)

Ayat-al-Kursi : Verse of Throne

When a Muslim recites Ayat-al-kursi, he/she is hereby repeating the Shahada. This ayah states

that Allah is al Ghani, the rich while we are fuqaraa, the poor. Allah owns all that is on earth,

hence we are called ibaadur Rahman, the servants of Allah. In this statement Allah tells us that

He alone has full knowledge of ilmul ghaib, unseen knowledge. No one is allowed to claim to

have knowledge of the unseen. Some people who do black magic, work with the jinn and claim to

have hidden knowledge of past and future events. This is to assume power among the people.

Anyone who makes this claim has fallen into shirk and major kufr that ejects the claimant outside

the fold of Islam. This is so because he is claiming Allah’s attributes for himself. These attributes

are The All Seeing, The All Hearing, The All Knowing.

Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him

presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what [appeareth to His creatures as] before or

after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His

Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and

preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme [in glory] (Al-Baqarah, 2:255)

Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace

[and Perfection], the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the

Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! [High is He] above the partners they attribute to Him.

"Praise be to Allah, who hath guided us to this [felicity]: never could we have found guidance,

had it not been for the guidance of Allah: indeed it was the truth, that the messengers of our Lord

brought unto us." And they shall hear the cry: "Behold! the garden before you! Ye have been

made its inheritors, for your deeds [of righteousness]." (Al-Araf, 7:43)

O Allah, send peace and blessing on our Prophet Muhammad, his companions, his family and

all those who follow on his path of righteousness till the day of reckoning. Ameen!

L’ENVOI

“The greatest change in life is often the most frightening one”. However, for me it has

been not only frightening, but also very enlightening. I praise and glorify the name of

Allah that he has enabled me to compile this book. It might come as a surprise to you

that until a few months ago, I could not even recite the Qur’an in Arabic even though

I’d been a Muslim for the last 23 years of my life. My inner history during the last few

months has been one of joyful and dedicated exploration, unperturbed by the

hurricanes that devastated my outer life.

I happened to be one of the regular guy next door working for leading software firm

until one day a setback in my personal life opened my heart to Islam. This journey of

sailing through my agony made me see the world beyond the horizon of self-

centeredness. I understood that millions of people are in distress. I realized that the

utopia that I was looking for does not exist. I am hoping that you would be able to

connect these supplications with your personal life and help in making your life a

pleasant one.

I owe a ton of gratitude to my parents, friends, ex-friends; my brother, my sister in

law and my niece for helping me carve out this spiritual path.

Now permit me to take leave of thee, dear reader, and pray for thy wellness as I wish

for thee to pray for mine.
