Message for Lesson No. 6

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Ramadan Short Course). Here is an input from Br. Mukarram Ali, one of our friends: I had the luxury to attend the short course more than once. Each time, I found it more interesting and saw my retention on the rise.

This Ramadan, I am offering Taraweeh at a Masjid where they recite almost one juz/para everyday. Contrary to the past, this year, I find my prayers less tiring and more absorbing due to one single reason: I am able to understand most of what is recited.

It is direct outcome of those short courses which I attended more than once. My humble advice: Go over this course more than once AND if you want Real P, add two Ps; i.e., if you want real Progress, start with Passion (internal factor) and choose a Partner (external factor) to go over the program jointly at regular intervals/timings in planned way. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM QUR’AN: Surah Al-Asr IN GRAMMAR: Four prepositions along with 7 pronouns which come in the Qur’an almost 5000 times. LEARNING / MEMORY TIP: Make of the right part of the brain. Think big and colorful. May Allah bless us with perseverance and consistency. Message for Lesson No. 8

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Ramadan Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! We ask Allah for guidance (ihdinassiraat…) in every Salah. Guidance is there in the Qur’an. Naturally, we should then look into Qur’an for it. Otherwise, how can it be that we ask for something 30 to 40 times everyday (almost 50 times everyday in Ramadan) and yet we don’t find any time to study the Qur’an. Are we serious in our asking? IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM QUR’AN: Surah Al-Ikhlaas IN GRAMMAR: Four important tips as to why prepositions keep changing their meanings when they come with verbs and verbal nouns. LEARNING / MEMORY TIP: Remember the meanings of every new word with an example. May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an. Lesson – 8 SURAH 112: AL-IKHLAAS

************************* ن الرحيمبسم اهللا الرحم: سورة اإلخالص **********************

اهللا (1) أحد اهللا هو قلSay, “He (is) Allah, [who is] One. Allah,

دم(2)الص لدي لم لمو ولد(3)ي the Self-Sufficient. He did neither beget and nor is He begotten,

(4)أحد كفوا ، له و لم يكنAnd (there) is not unto Him comparable anyone.

GRAMMAR (4 tips about Prepositions): 1. Same thing is expressed in different languages using different prepositions. For example:

تنباهللاآم I believed in Allah; ن ال (in urdu) اهللا ا

The above 3 sentences in 3 different languages express the same fact, i.e., I believed, but the preposition in each language is different.

For the same language, a preposition may be or may not be required depending upon the verb being used. Example: I said to him; I told him.

2. Sometimes, a preposition may be there in Arabic but not required in English (or any other) language. For example,

entering the religion of Allah لون في دين اهللاخدي Forgive me لياغفر

3. Sometimes, a preposition may not be there in Arabic but required in English.

I ask forgiveness of Allah اهللا فرغتأس and have mercy on me نيمحارو

4. Change of preposition leads to change in the meanings. Examples: In English: get; get in; get out; get off; get on

In Arabic: بكل لرد صمحلى مل عص

1. Say, “He is Allah, [Who is]

One. 2. Allah, the Self-Sufficient. 3. He did neither beget and

nor is He begotten, 4. And there is none

comparable unto Him.”

Message for Lesson No. 9

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Ramadan Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! Jazakumullahu khairan for the feedback from many of you. I have already implemented some suggestions in this lesson (providing English translations at more places; giving more emphasis on almost similar words which are absolutely different in meanings such as ‘min’ and ‘man’). Teachers (as well as students) may find additional notes for some of the slides. To look at them, you have to change the extension from .pps to .ppt and then select View from the menu bar and select “Notes page”. You can also view these notes in “Normal View” by just dragging the lower line of the slide box a little above, if they are not visible. As teachers, you can add to these notes for your own records (and send me too!). I will try to implement other suggestions too, inshaAllah as much as I can. Note that your one suggestion may go a long way in helping others. So, don’t hesitate and please spare the time to type a few words the moment you feel something. Please send your comments/ feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM QUR’AN: Surah Al-Falaq IN GRAMMAR: Learn the six past tense forms using TPI. Note that almost 5,000 words of the Qur’an are in these forms. LEARNING / MEMORY TIP: Learn an extremely important secret of keeping the memory alive. Depending upon the person (3rd, 2nd, or 1st), gender (masculine or feminine), and number (singular or plural), ending words of the corresponding forms of the past tense change. By this change we know whether this verb (past tense) is singular or plural, 3rd, 2nd or 1st person, and feminine or masculine. To remember this feature, here is an example. If you are standing on a road, you can see the backside of a departed car, truck or jeep. A look at the backside is enough for you to tell which

type of car has gone. So, remember the endings for past tense forms: ( ).

Message for Lesson No. 13

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! Most important point is: Never forget to beg Allah continuously and sincerely: “Rabbi Zidnee ‘Ilmaa” (O My Rabb, Increase me in knowledge). The prayer shows our love, concern, and feelings towards Qur’an. This begging along with our efforts inshaAllah will definitely bear fruits. If we don’t even ask Allah, it simply means that we don’t even care about understanding Qur’an! Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM Salah: Iqamah (Call at the start of obligatory prayers) IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on two verbs: fataha (he opened) and ja’ala (he made) LEARNING TIP: Always try to remember the two supplications and then create an environment of learning! Message for Lesson No. 14

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course).

Dear Brothers/Sisters!

Creating the environment of learning is extremely important. The 7+2 homeworks are

designed to create that environment. Among these, carrying vocabulary card in your

pocket and referring to it 5 times a day makes your learning faster by 300% (in my

opinion). In addition to these, please print the posters (the short course poster as

well as verb poster) and paste them in your home and/or office to remind you.

Develop a habit of studying them daily at some suitable family get-together times.

Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected].

IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

FROM Salah: Azkar related to the start, Rukoo, and Sujood.

IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on two verbs (Type-b): Nasara (he helped) and khalaqa

(he created).

LEARNING TIP: Always try to remember the two supplications and then create an environment

of learning! Carry the vocab card with you always. Download the mp3 in your mobile if you can.

classifications. There are extremely minor differences in these classes.

The little difference here is that

instead of ون، ... in

the imperfect tense, we have

 ،...،ون (that is, we

have ‘u’ sound on ص instead of

‘a’ sound).

Note similar small changes in the

Message for Lesson No. 15

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! To succeed in any area, you have to first develop a habit (doing something regularly). If you want to be physically fit, you have to have a habit of exercise. If you want to excel in exams, you have to have a habit of studying regularly. Similarly, if you want to learn Qur’an and develop the relationship with Allah, you have to develop a habit of devoting sometime for it daily. Habit is combination of “What to do & Why to do,” “How to do,” and “Desire to do.” That is, Knowledge+ Skill + Attitude. You already have knowledge (why to study the Qur’an), and skill (how to learn Qur’an). All that is remaining now is: Attitude, i.e., Do I want to give time and effort for learning Qur’an. Do I have desire to learn. If you stop studying Qur’an, focus on your attitude instead of looking for other options. If you develop the attitude, you will never miss it, inshaAllah. Plus 2 Homeworks (the supplications) help a lot to develop exactly the same. The remaining tips will focus on developing the attitude, inshaAllah. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM Salah: Tashah-hud (Attahiyyat…) IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on two verbs (Type-b): kafara (he disbelieved or he was ungrateful) and zakara(he remembered). LEARNING TIP: Develop the habit of studying Qur’an everyday. May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an. Dr. Abdulazeez Abdulraheem Understand Qur’an Academy, Hyderabad. Message for Lesson No. 16

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! Every time you pray for the Prophet, pbuh, remember his sacrifices for us and then remember to respond to his roles.

• His role was to recite the Qur’an. The verses are recited today also. Do I bother to understand them? Or I just don’t care!

• He was sent as a teacher of the Qur’an. Who should then be his students? Of course, we. But each one of us has a standard, “I am busy!” When someone says busy, he is not dead in that interval. He is doing something which he thinks is more important. So, when I say I am busy when it comes toQur’an, it simply means that of all the 24 hours, I don’t have any slot, even of 15 minutes, whether in morning, afternoon, evening, or night, that can be reserved for Qur’an!!! In other words, ‘Becoming his student is not worth my time’ Astaghfirullah. Or, “Everything else I do is more valuable and important than studying Qur’an!” Astaghfirullah. Is this how we VALUE our Prophet pbuh?

Therefore, everytime we recite the prayer on the Prophet, pbuh, make sure PLAN FOR ‘TODAY’ and EVERYDAY. All this can planning can be done in seconds in your brain! And don’t ever say, “I am busy” when it comes to Qur’an. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM Salah: Prayer for the Prophet pbuh. IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on three verbs (Type-b): razaqa (he provided, he gave); dakhala (he entered); and ‘abada (he worshipped). LEARNING TIP: Every time we pray for the Prophet (Allahumma Salli ‘alaa Muhammad), let us try to remember to respond to his roles. May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an. Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! While praying for the Prophet, pbuh, let us remember his sacrifices for us and then remember his advice to us, “Convey from me, even if it is one verse.” How can we convey the message when we ourselves do not understand it? It is not a matter of reading translations only. It is a continuous training by the Qur’an when we keep pondering over its meanings every time we listen to it. We have to convey the Qur’an with wisdom and beautiful preaching. Qur’an gives us numerous examples of this through the life of different prophets. The more we spend time with the Qur’an, the better we are trained and equipped to perform this noble duty. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM Salah: Prayer for the Prophet pbuh (2nd part). IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on three verbs (Type-c): Daraba (he hit); and Zalama (he wronged). LEARNING TIP: While praying for the Prophet (Allahumma Salli ‘alaa Muhammad), let us also remember his advice, “Convey from me, even if it is one verse.” How can we perform this duty when we ourselves have not understood the Qur’an! May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an. Dr. Abdulazeez Abdulraheem Understand Qur’an Academy, Hyderabad. P.S.: PLEASE INSTALL THE FONTS TO WATCH ARABIC IN PPT FILES. Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! If you really want to learn the Qur’an then make a plan. IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN, YOU PLAN TO FAIL. I have seen people who started the course with enthusiasm but did not continue for more than a couple of lessons. If you could not continue beyond a couple of lessons, it is time that you form a team and restart it again. Remember that if you are alone, Shaitaan can attack you easily. The Prophet pbuh said: “No people assemble in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, without tranquility descending upon them, Mercy (of Allah) covering them, the angels surrounding them, and Allah making mention of them in the presence of those near Him.'' [Muslim] So, instead of studying alone, why don’t you plan to get 4 additional rewards which are easily achievable if you team up with your friends and learn together! This will ensure continuity, consistency, and support from each other, in addition to benefiting from each other’s learning. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: FROM Salah: Prayer before the end of Salah. IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on three verbs (Type-c): sabara (he was patient); and ghafara (he forgave). Learning and Motivational TIP: Study together and get 4 additional rewards. Message for Lesson No. 19

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! Qur’an is a book of guidance (not just a book of rules!). In modern terms, it is also a book, in fact the ultimate book of Personality Development and success. It creates in a person all those qualities that are essential for success. If you read the literature of modern-day gurus of success literature, you will find that they talk about certain qualities essential for success. These qualities are: Attitude, Confidence, Optimism, Positive Thinking, High Moral Values, perseverance, Disciplined life, Good relationship with others, etc. No book or lecturer can instill these values in a person as perfectly and effectively as the Qur’an. In addition to Tawheed and Ibadah, these were the values which changed Sahabah and made them world leaders within no time! Our vision is that Muslims should not take Al-Qur’an in the limited sense of “Barakah” but to take as a book of ‘Success,’ and study it with utmost attention and dedication. It will instill all the values that are necessary to make a person great in this world and successful in the hereafter. That is the comprehensive Barakah that Al-Qur’an came with. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: Supplications: Before sleep and after getting up. IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on two verbs (Type-d): sami’aa (he listened); and ‘alima (he knew). Motivational TIP: Take Qur’an as the book of success for both this world (and realize what it means to be successful in this world!) and the hereafter. Message for Lesson No. 20

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! While talking about His beloved slaves, Allah says that they do not take the Qur’anic verses like a ‘deaf’ and ‘blind’ person [Reference 20:73]. Make sure to understand the verses and take them to heart while you listen or read. So many of us read these verses like a ‘blind’ person, i.e., they read with their eyes but don’t understand them. They listen to them like a ‘deaf’ person! Years pass by and they remain the same! That is even worse! If we fail to plan to spend time for understanding Qur’an, we plan to remain, in a sense, ‘deaf’ and ‘blind’ for the rest of our lives! How can we respond to the verses if we don’t understand them. Won’t we like to be one of those beloved slaves to Allah? Please plan to spend 200 hours as soon as possible in which you can learn to understand the complete Qur’an. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING: Supplications: Before and after eating. IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on two verbs (Type-d): ‘amila (he worked, acted, did); and rahima (He was merciful; He bestowed mercy). Message for Lesson No. 21

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! Many of us work for years to save the money to build a house in this world! In general, when the house gets ready, people cross their middle age. And we know that we will not live in such a house forever! Not even perhaps next 25 years. The more we live here, the more problematic the old age becomes, in general! Some of us die before even start living in it. WE ARE BUSY in generating money for this house and to enjoy the life in it (with families and friends) in it and therefore do not have time for Al-Qur’an. The Prophet pbuh said: "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' Based on this, some scholars say that there are as many grades of Paradise as the number of verses (more than 6000!). Who does not want to get eternally promoted, and live in the best state of health and facilities? Should we not GET BUSY for eternal promotion and the real enjoyment? All it takes is the change in our attitude towards Al-Qur’an. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Supplications: Two Quranic supplications.

IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on a special case (Qaala: He said) involving a weak letter.

Message for Lesson No. 22

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! People before us were given a Book! About them, Allah says that their example is “that of a donkey which carries books” (62:5). Why? Because they did not fulfill its rights (Believe, Recite, Understand, Implement, Propagate). Note that Allah is not joking here (astaghfirullah). He is extremely angry with those who did not value the Book. If we do not fulfill the rights of Qur’an, we will not be better than donkeys in His sight. It is as simple as that. Don’t start counting the donkeys among people. Beware! Allah is angry here (astaghfirullah). THE REAL OBJECTIVE OF GIVING THIS EXAMPLE IS TO ASK: Am I a donkey in the sight of Allah (astaghfirullah). And if I still say that I don’t have time to recite, study, understand, implement, propagate… then am I not insisting to remain a donkey (even after knowing) ??? Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Supplications: Miscellaneous verses. These verses are included in this course because they contain words which occur frequently in the Qur’an.

IN GRAMMAR: Apply the fa’ala table on a special case (Kaana: He was) involving a weak letter.

Message for Lesson No. 23

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! A standard reply that people have for not studying Qur’an is: “I am busy.” For them, here is an example. Suppose our company announces, “If you do 15 minutes overtime everyday, you will get 25 % Salary increase.” All of us will GRAB the opportunity. No one will say, “I AM BUSY.” If we earn 2000 units (Dollar, Euros, Dirhams, …) per month. 25% of it will be 500, and per day it will come to 20. If I am ready for this job but not for Al-Qur’an, then in practical life, in a sense, the value of Qur’an near me is not even 20!!! There are some people who do study Qur’an but at a snail’s pace. For them, here is another example. Suppose our company announces, “If you do 200 extra hours of work in your service, you will get 200,000 (whatever units of money). Do it 1 hr/day or 1 hr/week. Get 200,000 when you complete 200 hours. Each one of us will try to complete 200 hours asap! No one will complain of any time! We will say: Let us do it asap, get the money, buy a house or car, and enjoy the rest of life. Understanding Qur’an requires almost 200 hours of dedication. Once we do that, we can live the rest of life in full Qur’anic light. Should we not complete it asap so that we can live the rest of our lives in full Qur’anic light, under Allah’s LIVE guidance? Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Supplications: Miscellaneous verses (Set – 2). These verses are included in this course because they contain words which occur frequently in the Qur’an.

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course). Dear Brothers/Sisters! In Disney World, Florida, there is a simulation ride, called Time-machine. You sit in a car in a big dark hall and watch the screens (3D simulation). You feel as if you are traveling through skies and coming back to earth to pass through jungles and dinosaurs… When you open the Qur’an, you can go for a true time and space ride. More than that! An intellectual, emotional, and spiritual ride! There is nothing false (simulation) here! Qur’an is kitabul-mastoor, a written book and the universe, with all its details including humans is kitabul-manzoor (an open book). You can travel to the future, look the endings of arrogant people and those of pious people. You can go back in history and see absolutely true accounts of the best and the worst people. Have you seen a mother advising her child through stories and examples? Warning her child of consequences of bad action? Allah is much more kind to us than a mother is to her child. While taking us on this ride, He gives us a number of lessons and advice. More than that, we will find it matching perfectly with our innate nature! To go on this ride, just open the Qur’an with faith and devotion. Start reading it or listening to it. BUT THERE IS A CONDITION!!! YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND ITS ARABIC!!! Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Supplications: Miscellaneous Selections (Set – 3). These verses are included in this course because they contain words which occur frequently in the Qur’an.

IN GRAMMAR: Learn six words which occur 2286 times in the Qur’an!

Motivational TIP: Are you ready to go on an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual Time-space ride.

Message for Lesson No. 25

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course).

Dear Brothers/Sisters!

Instead of selecting miscellaneous verses of Qur’an from here and there, we

have selected daily recitations in this course because:

These selections are a part of everyday practice

Revision is ensured automatically

Whenever any of these words appear in a new context, it will be much

easier to recall an example from such selections

Therefore, in this lesson, please try to remember an example for each one of

these almost 100 words.

While talking about any of the Surah or zikr, we tried to provide some Points

or commentary (taken from reliable sources). These points help us a lot:

1. They helps us to bring them into our lives (especially through Ask-

Evaluate-Plan-Propagate formula).

2. Add emotional and spiritual side to our learning (right side of the

brain) and therefore provides additional anchor to remember

meanings.

3. Meanings (of keywords) helps us remember the message and the

message helps us remember the meanings of the rest of the words

Next time you read any part from Qur’an, try to identify the ‘keywords,’ i.e.,

depending upon your choice, select some words which are key to message.

They will help you a lot in remembering the message as well as the meanings

of the rest of the words.

Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected].

IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Learning TIP: Benefits of starting from daily recitations; Remembering examples for each word.

Revision: We will learn almost 100 words along with examples which occur in the Qur’an almost

35,000 times.

May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an.

Message for Lesson No. 26

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course).

Dear Brothers/Sisters!

The most precious things that a man owns are his heart and his time. Time is

life which can be invested in good or bad and heart is the internal compass which directs a person to use it properly through time, through days and

nights.

The center of our spiritual and physical existence is our heart. All important activities are functions of heart such as Iman (faith), Ikhlaas (sincerity), love of

Allah, tawakkul (trust), sabr (patience), shukr (thanksgiving), etc. People do not want to do good things not because they don’t know but because

their hearts are corroded. Some people say, we should work on faith. Understanding Qur’an is not that important. But how can any other cure be

better than what Allah has prescribed, as we shall see below.

The Prophet pbuh had said: Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body. If that is good, the whole body is good and if that is corrupted, the whole body

gets corrupted.”

On the Day of Judgment, wealth and children will not benefit. Only the one who comes with a ‘sound heart’ (free from evils) [26:89] or a heart turned in

devotion to Allah [50:33].

Allah says about the Qur’an, “O mankind! There has come to you an exhortation from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts, …” So, Can anyone give a better cure than what Allah has prescribed?

There are other cures too such as remembering death, doing zikr and Istighfar,

establishing regular prayers, avoiding sins, helping orphans and others, and committing ourselves to Islamic activities.

IN THIS LESSON, YOU WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING:

Motivational TIP: Qur’an and heart!

Revision: 24 Verbs that occur frequently in the Qur’an.

May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an.

Message for Lesson No. 27

Start Understanding Qur’an – The Easy Way (Short Course).

Dear Brothers/Sisters!

Muslims in general have a big confusion about guidance contained in the Qur’an. They equate it with rules and regulations, such as those of prayers, Zakat, Hajj, inheritance, or in general, the Islamic system of life. But rules do not constitute even 10% of the Qur’an. What then does the remaining 90% talk about? It is addressed to the mind and more importantly the heart. It is the heart that needs to be guided. “And if any one believes in Allah, (Allah) guides his heart (aright) [64:11]. Qur’an is the cure of hearts [10:57]. As we noted in the last reminder, all of us commit sins day and night (according to Hadith) and we need to keep our heart continuously clean by performing regular prayers, reciting Qur’an, and other good deeds. NO ONE can claim that he does not need this maintenance. How does Qur’an (which is nothing but Allah talking to us) guide? By describing realities of this life through different ways, most prominent among them are:

1. Allah, his attributes and rights 2. Prophethood and the Last Prophet, pbuh 3. The hereafter 4. Role of a human being 5. Role of Shaitaan 6. Signs of Allah in this universe 7. Rules of Allah in this universe 8. Stories and examples of earlier people and lessons from them 9. Rights of people 10. Why people reject the truth (Dawah, its challenges,) etc.

It addresses mind or one’s intellect and more importantly his heart. MOST IMPORTANTLY: No one can say the way Allah says it and No one’s words can have as much effect as Allah’s words are.

Lastly, I would say, don’t say you don’t have time to ‘sharpen the saw,’ i.e. to recite and understand the Qur’an. All of us are running towards making this life happy and peaceful. And that is exactly what Al-Qur’an is promising. Peace and happiness in this world and in the hereafter. Al-Qur’an will sharpen our saw (of attitude) which will solve all the problems. It will be a tragedy, a huge tragedy if we keep looking for happiness and peace somewhere else while Allah out of His infinite Mercy had placed it right in front of us.

Page 97: Quranic Arabic

Dear Brothers / Sisters! Allah has chosen you to make you students of the Qur’an. It is the biggest blessing when it comes to learning. Don’t prove it otherwise. Don’t reject His Mercy by going away or discontinuing. Be the student of the Prophet (pbuh). Don’t let Shaitaan make you like the example of those who were given a book before us. Don’t forget that this Qur’an will make us go higher and higher both in this world and in the hereafter. I keep wondering how intelligent Shaitaan’s strategy must have been. Almost 90% of us, the non-Arab Muslims, don’t understand the Qur’an. It is a catastrophic failure of our educational system. How can we remain ignorant of a book that is the most important of all the books. We, a billion Muslims, ask for guidance tens of times everyday (ihdinassiratal Mustaqeem), yet a huge majority of us DON’T EVEN FEEL THE NECESSITY to go to Qur’an for getting it. We celebrate Ramadan after Ramadan, benefit (inshaAllah) from the huge rewards, which actually is an annual gift of Allah in remembrance of the revelation of the Qur’an (Shahru Ramadaanalladhi unzila feehil Qur’an). Yet there is no significant improvement in our relationship with the Qur’an. We celebrate Lailatual-Qadr, try to get the huge reward of forgiveness, which again was granted in remembrance of the Qur’an (Inna anzalnahu fee lailatulqadr). Yet we lag behind when it comes to understanding the Qur’an. Al-Qur’an is the ultimate and real solutions to the problems of Muslims Ummah. These problems are mainly of two types. (i) Doubts (not enough belief that Qur’an can solve the problems, that Qur’an guides us to everything, …); and (2) Desires (Even though we know something to be right, we still don’t do it. Muslims not united; Evils not going out; Morals not good; etc.). Al-Qur’an solves both. It clears all our hidden doubts. It creates that impulse to overcome all types of desires. If not, it simply means that Allah’s voice is still not affecting our hearts and we need more cleaning of hearts. The challenge is huge. The responsibility is very big. We have to educate almost a billion non-Arab Muslims in addition to conveying the message to the rest 7, 8 billion non-Muslims. Each one of us need to join in this noble mission and spread the word. As a fees / charges of this course, may I request you that each one of you promise to Allah that he/she will teach at least 10 persons in his life as soon as possible. In fact, it is a wonderful opportunity to earn a reward which will continue even after one’s death. We have developed a noble game based “Who Wants to Understand Qur’an.” By the way, just to match with our website name, we have skipped ‘the’ before the word Qur’an. May Allah give reward to our webmaster, Br. Mujtaba Shareef for programming it, and Br. Syed Mazharuddin, who did the graphics design

Page 98: Quranic Arabic

(for this and all our posters, cards, book titles, etc.). They have been doing it all fee-sabeelillah. A discussion board is also launched on our website with different topics to start with. Teaching / learning Grammar; Motivational tips; Learning tips; Text selection; Role of spoken Arabic for learning Qur’an; Challenges of understanding for new Muslims / reverts; Teaching Qur’an in Schools; etc. Your input will be very valuable inshaAllah. May Allah reward everyone who helped in developing, promoting, supporting and spreading this noble work. My son, Sulaiman, was instrumental in daily uploads and handling the communication. I would like to thank and pray for him. Thanks are also due to my wife Tabinda Tahseen, my daughter Samah Abdulazeez and son Usamah Abdulazeez for their help in design, recording, and other aspects of the course including their patience and cooperation throughout this challenging task. Quiz No. 4 and the Final Exam will soon be mailed to you. You will go over the material thoroughly and then work on these. Please visit the website and submit the marks, even if you don’t want the certificate. At least, we will know how many people benefited from the course. Will we continue after this? InshaAllah yes. We pray to Allah that He accepts our humble efforts, forgives our omissions and mistakes, and gives us strength to continue on this noble path. Please send your suggestions, comments, or feedback at [email protected]. IN TODAY’S LESSON, you will see for yourself the impact of what you have learnt through an example. May Allah give us Tawfeeq to fulfill all the rights of the Qur’an. Dr. Abdulazeez Abdulraheem Understand Qur’an Academy, Hyderabad.

1. A course of approximately 25 hours – to help you learn around 300 words which occur approx. 55,000 times (out of a total of approx. 78000 Qur'anic words; representing 70% of Qur'anic vocabulary in this sense) in the Qur’an.

2. Spare just 25 minutes everyday, and insha-Allah you are on your way to realizing the dream.

3. Start the understanding of Qur’an using what you recite everyday!!! No need to look for any other text.

4. Immediately start realizing the benefits in your prayers and supplications, and thereby improve the relationship with Allah. Practice what you learnt right form day one. Start practicing what you learn by talking to Allah in Arabic with understanding!

5. Each session is interactive, if conducted in a group!!! Every participant has full and continuous chance to be involved in all the activities (Spoken Arabic, Grammar, and Word-for-word translation) throughout the session.

6. Each session has 3 different activities, which keeps the participants alive throughout the session. Learn at least one spoken Arabic sentence in each session. Learn basic Arabic Grammar as well as almost all important verb patterns by devoting just 8 to 10 minutes in each session.

7. Learning Arabic Grammar perhaps has never been so easy and simple. A new approach to the practice of grammar, i.e., TPI, Total Physical Interaction. Think it, see it, say it, and show it. One of the most effective and easiest techniques to overcome the most difficult part of learning the ‘fa’ala’ table (conjugation of a verb). This is the lesson where generally people give up learning Arabic. With TPI, it becomes just the opposite, i.e., most exciting and interesting part.

8. Every time you practice a grammar session (5 to 7 minutes), you are shown how closer you are to the understanding of Qur’an. Therefore, it becomes a session of love and excitement rather than that of boring drills.

9. Learn interesting examples/false links to remember some of the ‘odd’ rules of grammar.

10. Revise the whole learning in SPECIAL 10 sessions (at the end) where all frequently occurring words in the Qur’an are listed separately.

11. To remember important words, each word/verb that you have learnt is listed with an example for you to practice, remember, and retain. Every time you forget an important new word, you are given a context for it to recall.

12. Learn all important verb patterns thoroughly along with examples from the material covered in the first 50 sessions.

13. 16 quizzes and 2 exams (in the WORKBOOK) to help you evaluate your progress and encourage you to revise and continue.

14. With the CD (produced by the Academy), participate along with the audience throughout these sessions. You don’t have to wait for another sitting for practice. Practice right there! A CD containing mp3 files of the complete course (60 sessions) is also available. Recently, a brief recorded version of the course (4 hours) is also produced.

Actually this is a basic training course for every Muslim. It contains those parts which are practiced everyday by a Muslim. Therefore this course is will have direct impact on his life. It will make his regular worship more efficient and effective. Simultaneously he will get the confidence that he can learn the Qur’an very easily. In view of this, this course can be an excellent basic resource for every Muslim family, school, or organization.

Please wait for the announcement for the detailed course.
