The results to our SurveyMonkey, displayed in pie charts and analyzed.

Page 2: Questionnaire Results

We asked this question to find out more about our audience themselves, before asking about their

preferences. From the results, we can see that most of our audience that answered the questionnaire were

females.

Page 3: Questionnaire Results

To find out the general age of our target audience that took part in our questionnaire, we asked for their age range. The majority of the participants are age 19-25, which would qualify for films with an 18 certificate.

Page 4: Questionnaire Results

The results to this question prove that our audience, on the whole, prefer the thriller film to have a female victim. This is good as females are stereotyped as

weaker, and are therefore more often thought of as the character needing to be saved.

Page 5: Questionnaire Results

From the answers given to this question, the audience is on almost equal grounds over the gender of the villain. Half of the results favoured a female ‘bad guy’, which is

less usual and goes against stereotypes, and half preferred a male antagonist, which is more often used

and expected.

The majority of the participants voted for the opening credits to be during the opening scene of the film by

using techniques such as a title overlay or inserting the credits into a montage, rather than during the first scene by using a collage or classic opening. This will be good

as the film can get started straight away and begin building up the tension faster.

Page 7: Questionnaire Results

The result to this question was almost equal, meaning we can do either, or have it filmed inside. In my opinion, filming the film during the night will be beneficial to the film as the darkness with add an eerie atmosphere and it will play on the common fear of the dark, and having to use unnatural lighting would increase the uneasiness of the scene and can add different effects to the setting.

Page 8: Questionnaire Results

In this question, the answers were almost even. However, there were a couple more votes for there to be most unnatural lighting in the film, such as street lamps

or low lighting from television/technology screens.

Psychological turned out to be the most popular thriller sub-genre, with Crime and Murder being a close second. The other options were relatively even, though Spy and Religious both got no votes at all. Psychological thrillers can cover mental illnesses, conflicts within the mind and can easily overlap into supernatural or crime thrillers, which gives us a large amount of possible ideas for our

final film opening.

The location of our thriller is important as it helps set the atmosphere and mood of the scene. The favourite

option for the question was an asylum, which is good as this will help to make the film immediately

seem psychological related and give a brief background on the main character - a mental illness. The stale white

and sickly green colours that will be used in a typical asylum would also be beneficial to make the setting

seem unpleasant and medical.

To help set the mood of the film or scene further, music is used. The majority of our audience voted for the music

to be classical, with rock a close second, so we will explore both options when adding audio to our credits

and opening scene.
