What is a Social Group?A social group is a number of individuals

interacting with one another and usually have many things in common. So in our opening sequence we decided to use Gangs, Ethnicity and Teenagers/Young Adults to portray society within our opening sequence.

Gangs In our opening sequence we used M-E-S to represent

gangs. We did this by picking a location which looked like a place where gangs would hang around and cause trouble. We wanted a remote place that made you feel when watch you were in a rough area. Through the use of costume we were able to make the gang look stereotypical by dressing them up in tracky bottom and hoodies. We also had them have their hood up for most of the filming because it would have given away their identity to early on and this is what it is like in real society.

Ethnicity In our opening sequence we played on the role of ethnicity.

We did this because our film follows a lot of conventions of other Urban Dramas and we wanted to do the same. We used ethnicity all the way through our film because it is like that in society. So we had a black male play the role as gang leader because it is stereotypical in society for a black man to more powered then a white man and this is how society sees it. But we did use a white man in our opening sequence as well because we wanted to make our film more anti-stereotypical because we wanted to show that society should be equal and everyone IS equal.

Teenagers/Young AdultsAfter doing out target audience research we found out

that our audience was between 15 – 19 so we decided to use actors of that age group because I would have made the audience connect more with the characters and shared emotion. A lot of what we did for our opening sequence was to fit in with our target audience. So we used M-E-S to represent the younger generation and connect to them. We had the actors speak like teenagers would and how they would act when confronting someone. Also with the costume we tried to make the actors look more like teenagers while following the conventions of Urban Dramas. Our music is very much like what young adults and teenagers like to listen to.
