WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT

DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

Question 3.)

■Our production company name is S.T.L.M Production, which stands for Shakil Tommy Leon Mansib. We’ve used our initials since these are the members in our group and mainly because we wanted to stay simple and not over-complicate things with our name, and also since it’s a short name for a production company compared to most of the production companies, such as “Universal” or “Lions Gate”, it will be easy to remember. Anyway the role of a production company is supposed to take responsibility over the funding and support and they are also committed to the cast, budgeting, scripting etc.

■ The company I would compare with our production company would be Isle of Man Films, they are a production company that was found in 1995 in England, they mainly produce animations, TV Drama’s and many films and have made over 100 projects for the past 20 years. And the reason why we’re comparing our company with theirs is mainly because they are a small company like us and also use low-budgets for their production. And also they have made a couple thriller genre films, such as; The Disappearance of Alice Creed, the film isn’t as similar as ours, but it does include a antagonist and a victim like ours, the only difference is that the antagonist kidnaps the victim while on the other hand the antagonist in our film murders the victim. Another similarity would be that both of the films have a low budget, which means not a lot of money was spent in order to make produce it. This is very beneficial when we made the film because the cost for the production was low and if the film becomes very successful we would have a great revenue and a great income as well, which would mean that in the future we may have a much bigger budget for a better project. Another way this could benefit our company’s future is that we would be learning how to spend less money in order to make a successful project.

■Since we’re a new production company and also low-budgeting as well, most of the films that are similar to ours would be most likely be low-budgeting as well, since we didn’t spend too much on the costume, items, etc.… An example of a film that is similar to ours would be called “Gone” which was produced by WorkingTitle Films. One big reason why this film is similar to ours is because the genre is the same as ours, which is a psychological-thriller and horror-thriller, the plot is also similar to ours. The story is about a young British man named Alex who visits Australia just to see his girlfriend, along the way he met a guy named Taylor, and they became friends. Throughout the film the Alex realizes that Taylor is a manipulative psychopath obsessed with his girlfriend. While on the other hand Alex’ girlfriend believes he’s jealous over Taylor. And things are starting to become very ugly for Alex.

■ There are many ways we could distribute our films, well Distribution mainly means how the media product gets to the audience. One way of getting our film out would be by attending many film festivals. This is very useful because CEO’s from production companies like LionsGate or Warner Brothers visit the film festival quite often just to check out for new ideas, and if they like our film they would promote us and buy our film. I believe that’s one of the best way to distribute our film because there is a chance that our film could go out there to those big and successful companies. I believe the other way of distributing our film would be online as it’s profitable and has a less cost to it, and we can upload it on websites such as youtube.com or also publish it onto small companies like Isle of Man films, which could have a decent amount of profit and a less amount of cost. Another company we could distribute it would be Sky or Netflix, since they provide service on Television and on handheld devices, it’d be a smart decision to distribute the film to those companies, since people nowadays are very dependent on technology. We could also distribute our films into marketing websites such as Amazon, since they do sell films and advertise a trailer for our film on social media such as Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, Instagram or Pinterest. Lastly we are going to distribute our film via a media file such as avi, since we wanted to publish it online on websites and to make the film look high quality and able to store it on a cloud drive so other companies can access the film with authorities. We might also distribute the film via DVD or a Blu-ray including the Director’s Commentary.
