QUARTIERE LATINO, UNIVERSITY and PONTE DANTE
Opened in September 30th 2006, it was designed by Paul Portuguese that restored the old hospital of
Santa Maria dei Battuti The idea behind it was based on
the restoration of the original style by harmonizing it with elements of modern design.
HISTORY
Ponte Dante The bridge stands at the point where the Cagnan flows into the Sile, making a beatiful view. In 1865, in the sixth centenary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, the citizen built on the bridge a pillar that recalls the presence of the Poet in Treviso. Dante has mentioned this place in his Divine Comedy, and referred to as the point: " dove Sile e Cagnan s’accompagna(where the Sile and the Cagnan meet) " (Paradiso, IX, 49). After this pillar was built, the bridge was called "bridge of the impossible" because everyone thought that it would have been overwhelmed at the first flood of the river, like all the previous bridges and walkways, built of wood.
UNIVERSITY
The Quartiere Latino is also the home of the local university, consisting of branches of the University of Padua and the University Ca 'Foscari of Venice.
Church of San Leonardo There was a hospital in Treviso, known as "S. Leonardo, which became a Church that kept the same title. The first record of its existence dates back to 1330. There is nothing left of the original structure because the Church, already rebuilt in 1657, have been restored a lot of times.
