Dear RES Parents and Families,Let’s start this update with a celebration! We’ve worked collaboratively to ensure our students
are healthy and in school where they can learn and grow. I thank you ALL for your continued commitment to our district Health and Safety Plan. Though it has required some of our students to quarantine and miss school while sick or following guidelines, our teachers have worked with you to get them caught up and again, keep everyone safe and healthy.
I would also like to celebrate all of the student growth so far. As a part of our quarterly reports, the STAR 360 reports were posted to your child’s Community Web Portal account in Sapphire. You also had or have scheduled your conferences with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress and growth so far. The scores on their assessments and report cards should be indicators and sources of data, but not the only piece of the puzzle that is your child as a student. These data points can help you decide what you want to emphasize at home with your child, and what you look for when they are completing homework, or as you are looking through the work they bring home for you to review. At home, focus on emphasizing their strengths and growing in the areas identified by their teachers. Together, we will continue to support all of our learners.
Dear RES Parents and Families,This marking period we adjusted to our classrooms and being back in school from the summer,
formed relationships with our classmates, teachers and staff members, enjoyed outdoor recess as many days as possible, were excited to go back to the music room, computer lab, library and art room for specials, and we exerted our energy in PE classes with the return of some of our normal stations and fitness routines including the rock wall!
We also had our first in person assembly with an outside presenter in almost two years thanks to our wonderful PTO, we also had full blown Halloween/fall parties and parades last week which were a blast! To say Richland Elementary School has been exploding with learning and fun is an understatement!
You may be asking yourself what you can do at home to continue to support your child’s growth, or help them build skills that they seem to be struggling with. Emphasize some of the social-emotional and interpersonal skills while at home. Discuss what it means to take turns, having patience and waiting until an adult is finished helping someone else before addressing their needs, and even emphasize sustained attention on a task - it can be academic or otherwise. These are skills that help our students in school so they can thrive with their peers and learning.

helpful tips on how you can develop routines and supports at home for your child to support their growth.
Finally, I must say thank you. Thank you for supporting us from the outside again this year. We are starting to welcome volunteers into the classrooms and building on a very limited basis, but an improvement from where we were last year. Thank you for continuing to remind your child to wear their mask properly, wash and sanitize their hands regularly, and stay in their own designated space. Thank you for emphasizing that they sit in their assigned bus seats for their safety. Thank you for sending us students who are ready to learn so that we can “focus on learning for every student every day.” I continue to be proud of our RES Rams and grateful each day that this is our community of learners!

PRIDE for what WE do!In October we started discussing our building theme, “I can see the LEADER in ME” through
our building book, What the Road Said by Cleo Wade. We will continue this learning on the morning announcements and in our classrooms! Our Rams created fish in art class to show
their individuality and celebrate the idea that we all have leadership within us.

Every staff member in our building received a copy of the book so they can be in the conversation about how we develop leadership and what our book can teach us all about
leadership. The book, What the Road Said by Cleo Wade is a beautifully written and illustrated children’s book with a character who learns to trust themselves and the process of taking risks
and learning to end up the best version of themselves possible. The author’s note in the back reads, “You are important, you are here on purpose, and you deserve to be the leader in your life.” We will extend the conversation and learning beyond this book, but it was a great place to start!
