REEF RAPTURE• snorkelling • diving

Mission Beach is the birthplace of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park for a reason – it is the closest access point from the mainland to the reef than any other destination on the Far North Coast and it accommodates some of the most spectacular coral reefs in the world.

Your senses will be awakened like never before in the spectacular marine wonderland where unspoiled coral reef and diverse and exotic marine life await diving enthusiasts and fi rst time snorkelers alike.

It was from the shores of Bingil Bay Mission Beach in the 1960’s that some of the world’s most ardent conservationists, including Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt changed the perception of the world in regards to environmental protection. And through tireless efforts saved the reef bordering Mission Beach from mining – eventually resulting in the protection of the entire Australian Great Barrier Reef.

Thanks to these great campaigners, visitors today marvel at colourful living coral, sea turtles, lionfish and giant manta rays.

Local tour companies offer half day toursto the reef and cater for all levels of experience.

GO WILD (Nature-Based Tourism)• fl ora • fauna • hiking • culture

One of the biggest drawcards to Mission Beach is the World Heritage rainforests of the Wet Tropics. Sixty per cent of Australia’s butterfl ies can be found here, including the magnifi cent Birdwing and the Ulysses species. Mission Beach is also home to the Southern Cassowary.

Hikers will be tempted by a range of historical and invigorating walks, ranging from strolls to more challenging inclines. Popular tracks include Bicton Hill, Licuala Fan Palm Walk, Edmund Kennedy Walking Track and Lacey’s Creek.

Visit Paronella Park, voted Queensland’s

number 1 must do. An experience that is impossible to describe.

Discover the secrets of our Indigenous culture and dreamtime places with guided tours to Echo Creek Falls.

ADVENTURE• fi shing • kayaking • horse riding

Several creeks empty their waters at Mission Beach, making it an ideal spot for catching Barramundi and Mangrove Jack. Popular fi shing areas include the Clump Point jetty and boat ramp. If you

need a little help to secure your catch, daily charters are available to take you to exclusive fi shing grounds abundant with sought after tropical reef and sport fi sh.

Kayaking tours off the beach and across to Dunk Island are another great way to take in the scenery often sighting dolphins, rays and turtles.

Wet Topics Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef - Imagine Mission Beach .

Celebrated for its beauty and diversity Mission Beach touches the soul and inspires those who visit to

Australian coral reefs and is the proud birthplace of the ‘Great Barrier Reef’ marine park.

THE ISLANDS• dunk island • bedarra island

Approximately 4km offshore, Dunk and the Family Group of islands make up Mission Beach’s aquatic playground.

The tropical verge of Dunk Island is wonderful for cool rainforest walks, and day trips to Dunk Island from Mission Beach can be enjoyed with minimum effort.

The remaining islands of the Family Group include Timana, Wheeler, Coombe, Smith, Bowden and Hudson Islands. Campers can stay on Dunk, Wheeler and Coombe with a permit. Camping equipment is available for hire.
