COLLEGE ADMISSION PROCESS (FLOWCHART)
INTRODUCTION TO Flowcharts
Flowcharts are maps or graphical representation of a
process. Steps in a process are shown with symbolic shapes
and flow of the process is indicated with the arrows.
Flowcharts were popular in 1960’s to map the logic of the
program.
Flowcharts can help you see whether the steps of the
process are logical, uncover problems or
miscommunications, define the boundaries of the process,
and develop the common base of knowledge about the
process.
Flowcharting often brings to light redundancies, delays,
dead ends and indirect parts that would otherwise remain
unnoticed or ignored. The trouble spots in a process
usually begin to appear as a team constructs detailed
flowchart.
The flowchart describes the college admission process in a
precise manner considering all the minute details involve
during the admission process.
It is the combination of macro and micro flowchart. The
macro flowchart emphasis the overall major process
involved while the micro flowcharts (the one enclosed in
dotted lines) deals with concerned issue at any micro
flowchart level.

Identification of three trouble spots : Problem definitions
Reservation for SC/ST
Scheduled Castes (SC) and Tribes (STREAM) constitute approximately
22.5% of the country’s population. Accordingly, a pro-rata reservation
of 22.5% (SC 15% and ST 7.5%) has been made for them in educational
institutions which come under the administrative control of the
Ministry of Human Resource Development and other Central Ministries.
Similar reservations, directly proportional to their population, have also
been provided by the State Governments and Union Territory
Administrations. SC and ST students are also entitled to relaxation in
respect of the upper age limit (generally 5 years) as well as concession
of lower cut-off qualifying marks (5-10%).
NRI Quota
Every college has its own quota for non regional Indians but as
observed till date nothing like this exists rather students belonging to
general caste take admission under this quota and pay fees in foreign
currency which is twice or thrice the actual fees.
Thus this quota reduces the opportunities for well deserving candidates
who are unable to pay huge amount of money.
Agents inside the management
As shown in the flowchart students who are unable to get the desired
course or branch in a particular course of a college , agents take
advantage of such students and obtain huge amount of money from
them.
Such agents not only degrade the education platform for deserving
candidates but also make the Institution corrupt.
Lessons learned
1. Students applying for NRI Quota should have a positive sense of not
taking seats of deserving candidates instead they should work hard
for the seats
2. There should be no reservation for any backward caste because today
everyone is treated equally irrespective of castes and creed . Though
a reduction in their fees based on certificate verification should be
granted but reservation of seats should not be done.
3. Students as well as their parents should demotivate the act of the
agents and must not pay to agents to seek admissions as this not only
degrades the college reputation but also reduces the competition
spirit of students.
The college admission is highly affected by the above mentioned
trouble spots and these are very common to be noticed in each and
every graduation institutes today.
We being the students have learned and noticed such degrading
activities during our admission as well which created a negative
impact.
